To think I've been scammed by motorcyclist?

A motorcyclist rode right up to my car whilst I was stationery, and just touched it with his bike, no jolt, and then put his bike down and got off it. I felt he had staged a collision.

He then told me to take photos. Neither vehicle appeared to be damaged.

He asked to see my driver's license, but I refused, however, we exchanged names and phone numbers. When I google the name he gave me, only one site comes up and it is a porn site.

I then got a phone call from someone using a number I dont recognise saying they were from an accident helpline company, and asking if I was involved in an accident and they named the road it happened on. I told them to contact my insurance company and hung up. They tried to call me again and I blocked them.

What should I do?

Why did you even exchange details if you were stationary. I would have been asking for his details as he hit me!

These fraudsters target people they think are most likely to be compliant at the scene - elderly people and women on their own, or women with children. If you're faced with a (potentially angry or volatile) man when you're on your own it can be very intimidating, and if you're not in the habit of having incidents like this it can be very confusing at the scene - the fraudster will try and confuse the victim and not give them time to think clearly about what's just happened.

Op did the right thing to hand over her details, believe it or not. It's all very well to sit behind a computer and tell her off for exchanging her details but that's what you're legally required to do after a collision so if he chose to ring the police, which they will sometimes do to add legitimacy to his accusations, and tell them she's refusing to exchange details, she could have got in trouble for not doing so.

Op go out and take lots and lots of photos of all angles of your car, close up and further back particularly around the area where the collision allegedly happened. This could be vital later on.

Cash for crash. Report to the police

Thanks @Barleysugar86 @Dakotabluebell the IFB form is glitching when I select the date so I will phone them.

My insurer has made a note of it for their Fraud dept, it won't count as a claim, and I have reported it to police as my insurer advised.

I withheld my number and called the accident helpline using the number from their website and asked them whether, if I told them the number which called me, they could they confirm it was theirs. They curtly put me on hold and then apologised for accidentally putting me on hold and said they use lots of numbers so wouldn't be able to confirm this. They said they could look up if they had contacted me but I said I would not give them my details and I was reporting it as fraud.

It was all very dodgy!

So glad it's worked out ok for you and you've been supported. Our insurer was incredibly kind and helpful with our attempted fraud. It really shakes you up doesn't it, and there's that horrible sick helpless feeling in your stomach when you feel like maybe you won't be able to prove it!

I don't know how people have such sad lives that they can live with obtaining money in this way.
