to hope Oleksandr Usyk smashes Tyson Fury to pieces

I would like John Fury, Tommy Fury, and especially Tyson himself all to be humiliated. I saw John Fury headbutt a member of Usyk's team just for chanting 'Usyk, Usyk'.

I despise the entire Fury clan (possibly excluding Paris, but then I remember she doesn't want her children to go to secondary school....)

Usyk seems like a humble, polite man. He cares about his country, his family and whilst he is obviously very funny, he seems very serious about his goals.

I don't care much about boxing but my family love it and keep going on about this fight being the biggest for decades. I always want to support the Brit but can't bring myself to get behind him here.

@ana7887 How could you!? What
Can you see in Fury?

So you/your family think it's important to watch one bonehead thump another one till one is badly hurt? Bizarre.

Quite. It's the only "sport" where if you did it in day to day life you would be arrested for assault.

I think less of people thar want to watch people hit each other.

HooleyB · 18/05/2024 21:17

@Gruffallowhydidntyouknow Ever watched ice hockey? Fighting is legal and a part of it. I really never thought I'd want to watch but perimenopause is wild. Knock him on his arse!

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 18/05/2024 21:23

I've got to be honest I've kind of warmed to Fury watching the Netflix doc (I obviously know it's heavily edited) - I also think his conversations about mental health have been helpful for some men. Fury isnt just a big slugger, he is inconsistent and a loose cannon but at his best, he is a versatile instinctive fighter, he can switch hit and is an unconventional which makes him hard to fight, he knows how to use his weight and his reach.

I'm watching and will be leaning towards Fury though won't be disappointed if Usyk wins. I think given Fury's current weight and shape Usyk will be very lucky to win.

Floralnomad · 18/05/2024 21:23

I’m not going to watch it , it’s PPV and I refuse to fund anything that Fury might benefit from .

Notsoflirtythirty · 18/05/2024 21:28

Usyk all the way. Can't stand fury.

Bazinga007 · 18/05/2024 21:35

I don't like drug cheats, so I am supporting Usyk.

Floralnomad · 19/05/2024 00:40

Hurray 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀

Macbeff · 19/05/2024 00:59

Despite Fury’s ludicrous claim that the war had a hand in the outcome, Usyk fully deserved that. He never really looked shaken or under pressure, which is more than can be said for Fury who although he fought well, looked like he was going down at one point.

Oh my goodness, how will I sleep tonight now??? 🤣🤣

Absolutely the correct result....well done, Usyk 👏👏

FaeryRing · 19/05/2024 08:12

Wow didn’t expect that well done Usyk

OlympicProcrastinator · 19/05/2024 08:18

Fury was a sore loser blaming the war for his loss. And what was that ‘happy new year’ about?

Looking forward to a rematch Usyk beating him a second time.

SkiingIsHeaven · 19/05/2024 09:18

Fury was saved by the referee.

Fury was saved by the referee.

Interesting take - it was scored a knockdown because Fury was out on his feet, if it weren't for the ropes he would have been on the floor. Obviously in boxing you aren't allowed to hit a man on the floor, so it had to be called, no? Or should the ref have let Usyk continue to punch a man in the head that can't defend?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/05/2024 13:08

I thought it was awful that Fury blamed his defeat on Ukraine being at war. Yes, nice try.

I hope people don’t think that represents how British people think!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/05/2024 14:06

Might be worth mentioning that Usyk has a degree and is at least bi if not trilingual (his English seems ok from what I could tell).

Fury thinks children shouldn’t go to school 🧐

That was incredibly tasteless wasn’t it?

Headtothestreets · 19/05/2024 16:17

It was a close match but didn’t seem quite as close as the scores reflected.

AlwaysGinPlease · 19/05/2024 16:45

I'm glad Fury lost. Absolutely revolting " man"

@spannered if the ropes are the only thing keeping you up and you can't defend yourself then the referee should have stopped the fight.

Instead he gave him a breather which allowed him to carry on.

Fury was totally disrespectful. I used to support him but his antics, disrespect and that of his father and his team mean I won't support him again.

spannered · 19/05/2024 23:23

@SkiingIsHeaven have to agree to disagree on that one. If a fighter is conscious (or even unconscious!) and knocked down (using ropes or the floor) then they get the standing count. If they can meaningfully defend themselves after the count then there's no need to call a TKO. He stood up and held his gloves when asked. He's stood up from much worse in the past and gone on to win! If anything, the ref should have called a knockdown and given him a standing count the first time he fell to the ropes, rather than the second.

Given the elite level of these fighters, and the gravity of the event, any ref would be reluctant to stop the fight IMO. Maybe if it was an amateur bout it would have been called off.

FWIW I love both of them and thought it was a great fight!

I agree with what Carl Froch said afterwards, Fury was saved by the ropes and the referee in round 9. The referee was hovering in and out. If Usyk had done what many other fighters would have and hit Fury one more time as the ref stepped in then I think Fury would have been out of there.
