To ask why I'm tired all the time?!

Redreindeertoy · 16/05/2024 16:29

For the past couple of months I've just felt tired, all the time. Usually when my alarm goes off in the morning I can jump straight out of bed, but at the moment, I snooze multiple times.

It gets to around this time (4pmish) and I just feel so, so tired. Like I could put my head on my desk right now and go to sleep.

I thought I must be anaemic or something so the drs did a full set of bloods last week, but they've all come back normal?! My ferritin was 30ugl, my B12 was 745 ng/l, are these okay? I wouldn't know!

My diet admittedly could be a bit better, but I exercise for at least an hour evert day, get plenty of fresh air. I'm a size 8 so not overweight.

I was really hoping the bloods would come back with something.

That ferritin level would be considered borderline low by the NHS I believe - do you take an iron supplement?

Meadowfinch · 16/05/2024 16:40

Have you had a mammogram recently? I was like that and I had BC.

My dsis had similar but hers was a thyroid problem.

There are lots of possible causes. You should never ignore unexplained tiredness. Go back to the GP and ask him to check your thyroid if he hasn't already. Look at your diet. Cut back on carbs and increase protein a little & see if that helps.

Talk to your GP for further investigation.

How old are you OP?

mynameiscalypso · 16/05/2024 16:43

I could have written this. I do have an autoimmune condition but it's normally been well controlled but the conclusion from the doctor is it's most likely some kind of post-viral thing.

Twylitette · 16/05/2024 16:45

My bloods dont alarm doctors but taking an iron supplement peps me up, without it i slide back into being tired by 9am 😫

foreverbasil · 16/05/2024 16:49

Make sure you are hydrated too. Afternoon tiredness for me is when I've forgotten to drink plenty of water.

stayathomer · 16/05/2024 16:50

The stupidest question but do you stay up late or look at screens before bed?

solsticelove · 16/05/2024 16:51

That ferritin is borderline low. I’d be getting it rechecked soon. How old are you? Are you having heavy periods?

They checked my thyroid last week, according to the NHS app, my serum TAH level was 0.80 mu/L and my serum free T4 level was 12.7 pmo/L.

I'm too young for a mammogram but I've had my breasts checked recently as I'm prone to breast cysts.

I'll try changing my diet and eating a bit better and see if it helps, if not, I'll have to go back to the GP.

Oh, really? I have no idea what's normal/ boderline.

Yes, I do take a liquid iron supplement.

Yes to both 🙈 Not too late though, I turn my light out at 11pm most nights and I don't have to be up til 7.30-8pm. I have slightly disturbed sleep some nights with needing to pee in the night but other than that it's not too bad.

I do need to try getting to bed earlier though!

Your thyroid is on the low side of normal.

DelilahBucket · 16/05/2024 17:08

I found a daily liquid iron supplement helped me a lot with fatigue. I take Spatone. It took about three weeks for me to see an improvement. Now I only get the fatigue feeling when I have a migraine.

stayathomer · 16/05/2024 17:34

Redreindeertoy
For about four weeks I had the dream situation of fab sleep. I stopped looking at my phone after 7, didn’t eat crap or drink after 8. Couldn’t keep it up though, mn and Fb shorts pulled me back in🙈

Gah; why hasn’t the dr said any of this? I’ve had no phone call from them to discuss the results or anything, I wouldn’t even have known I had the results back if I hadn’t of checked the NHS app and they’ve been back nearly a week!

Wondering if I should ring up and push further re the thyroid and ferritin but don’t want them to think of me as some sort of neurotic nuisance!

You need to ask for your TSH to be tested Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. If it comes back over 4 you have mild hypothyroidism. It shows in TSH before T4 results.

Lilyhatesjaz · 16/05/2024 18:18

I had similar symptoms and it was vitamin D deficiency. I have felt much better since taking a supplement many people in the uk are deficient and the weather can't be helping.
