Scared of going to Paris Alone

Aquarius1234 · 16/05/2024 15:40

I have booked a short trip to Paris for two nights, to go to the French Open Tennis for one day.
There is no one close to me that likes Tennis enough to join me, so I randomly booked solo and a single ticket.
But now I am worried about going there alone. Unable to get refunds.

Walked down the road and just had a pizza in a tiny restaurant. Takeaway place really. Then went to a late closing supermarket for few bits.
It's a quiet area.
Now to find the Tennis tomorrow!
Hotel reception wasn't very friendly or helpful considering the cost. Other than saying busy for taxi between 9 and 10 30am. Well I'll still ask tomorrow.

Just go. It will be fine. Do you speak or read a little bit of French? Its a safe city in Western Europe with good public transport, lots to see and do, plenty of tourists. Nothing to worry about. You're making out like you're spending the weekend in Caracas.

@Aquarius1234 How did you get on?

Yes it was OK apart from the nightmare journey back.

I lived in Paris and two other major world cities. I went to eurodisney a couple of years ago and felt really unsafe at gare du Nord with pickpockets ramming into me and the kids! So avoid that area and generally use common sense - money and phone in bum bag and out of sight. Travel with minimum luggage.

Yes I had way too much time in the station and it wasnt until I found the UK bit upstairs that I felt ok.
Horrible station.

The UK bit? The Eurostar terminal?

if that is the UK bit, I will now call the after security area of St Pancras the French bit.

I know this is late and you have already been (hope you had a lovely time) but I have travelled many times solo and would much prefer to get public transport at all times of the day so that I am with other people than get in a taxi on my own. That seems so much more of a risk than the metro imo

I always book a hotel as close to a tube/metro stop as possible so there are people milling around

Aquarius1234 · 09/06/2024 16:22

My hotel was only a mile from destination but I got taxi , just I got a dodgy one on way back. I just didn't have time to work out how to walk back at night. Phone died.

All the usual things when going somewhere new. Researching and looking and how far the travel is to and from, or what form of public transport, isn't quite the same as being there in person.
