AIBU to have no idea how much on average I spend on food per week/ month.

Eeeeek anyone else??

Well I know roughly because I do the food shop.

Mum2jenny · 15/05/2024 21:25

I spend far too much, any weekly supermarket shop under £150 is good, and that’s for 2 adults and 1 dog

ZipZapZoom · 15/05/2024 21:26

Personally I think that's a very charmed position to be in. I wish I was wealthy enough to be that carefree about budgets. Alas I have a budget and stick to it each week as does most of the population I'd imagine.

Aquarius1234 · 15/05/2024 21:27

Food has gone up so much, I don't wanna know 😩

I just tap tap tap the card.

Always on the self checkouts, you kinda checkout..

buffyslayer · 15/05/2024 21:30

Nope, I have a really strict budget and add up as I go round
£240pm - easier than weekly as some weeks are more or less

LaurieFairyCake · 15/05/2024 21:30

We spend about £700 on 2 of us (but 3 dogs)

That's including all cleaning products/toiletries

We basically eat a baked potato and curry/ratatouille/veg thingy every night

And toast

We are really not living any sort of luxurious life and £700 !!!

I wouldn’t say this is normal? I’m not on a budget so I’m not obsessive but I know when I come out of the shop that I’ve spent £120 because the cashier just told me to pay £120… 👀

700 a month?
Yeh I'm currently eating a big bowl of cornflakes.

I assume the £700 is a month?

That's £175 a week and you're eating jacket spuds ??

StormingNorman · 15/05/2024 21:33

Usually hovers around £130 in the supermarket, probably another £50/100 on takeaways and £20 for bits from the village shop during the week.

This Is for two adults for five days. We eat all our meals out at the weekend. I’ve never tallied it up before and this is really uncomfortable.

Hmmm - I’m putting us on a budget next week!

AdoraBell · 15/05/2024 21:34

Do you have receipts for the groceries?

Muffin101 · 15/05/2024 21:34

I actually have no idea how much our food bill is a month, I’m sort of the same as you really op. I know we need to buy food so it is what it is. I’m aware I’m lucky, in some sense, that I don’t need to adhere to a strict budget. Obviously they tell me at the check out, but I wouldn’t have a clue re an average monthly amount.

PhuckyNell · 15/05/2024 21:34

I always know because back in the day I would add it up in my head to within a few quid and it's impossible to stop now 😂

CharlotteRumpling · 15/05/2024 21:35

Do you want to know?

thanKyouaIMee · 15/05/2024 21:37

I just pay each time I'm in the shops, then at the end of the month see the all up ££££ total and wonder how on earth it's that much for two adults two pets 😂

Peaceandquiet9276 · 15/05/2024 21:37

I don’t know how you don’t know unless you’re not the one doing the food shop as they literally tell you help much it is…mine is generally a similar price each week too.

Aquarius1234 · 15/05/2024 21:39

It's easy to tap your card at the self checkouts not get a receipt and not quite know how much you just paid.

For 2 people?? You need to look at what you're buying. I feed a family of 5 for £500 a month and we are not eating jacket potatoes.

Aquarius1234 · 15/05/2024 21:40

I don't like getting receipts.

OP posts:
AtomicBlondeRose · 15/05/2024 21:42

I know exactly how much as I use Monzo and have a virtual card assigned to my food pot. I put £350 a month in there and don’t usually top it up. I also almost always shop at Lidl so can track how much I’ve spent in there by which rewards I’ve hit. It’s a good way to do it - if I see the pot is low in the last week it’s a sign to raid the freezer/have jacket spuds, and if not, I rethink the budget going forward.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 15/05/2024 21:43

I budget £200 per month for me & the cat/s, including cleaning stuff etc, & it’s usually about right.

Aquarius1234 · 15/05/2024 21:43

Please tell there are a few others here, that don't know and may be horrified to find out..
