People posting videos of gigs - so boring

I don't understand why a) people video gigs - do you really watch it back at a later date? And b) why people post videos of gigs on social media like other people will be interested? Its always dark, the sound quality is terrible. I just don't get it. Why don't you just enjoy the gig you've gone to see

Agree, yawn. They just want you to know they’re fun and into cool bands …

thanKyouaIMee · 15/05/2024 13:03

I enjoy filming small clips of it, but I wouldn't be filming a full 2-3 hour one!

I love to look back on memories like that, or share clips with friends of our favourite lyrics.

Thejackrussellsrule · 15/05/2024 13:05

Same with fireworks, just watch the darn display live, you will not watch it back!

toomuchfaff · 15/05/2024 13:10

I do agree with you - about being "in the room" not living/seeing life through a phone screen

Some people do watch them back; we were in Scotland recently, stayed at a hotel in the centre, at breakfast and some annoying dick was watching replays of the Billy Idol gig the night before at full volume, laughing and giggling with his wife, replay after replay - must have videoed the full gig... 8am at breakfast, I could have thrown a plate at his head.

Floatinginatincan · 15/05/2024 13:12

Maybe they are excited to be there and want to share a little of their amazing experience. Isn't that the point of social media to share?. You don't have to watch it just scroll on by.

Mannyshy · 15/05/2024 15:04

Isn't it just the same as most of the other shite people post though? If you don't like it just scroll past.

ladyofshertonabbas · 15/05/2024 15:06

Agreed! And all kept online 24/7 by huge servers, forever- what a waste of energy.

TrixieFatell · 15/05/2024 15:08

Im guilty of this but not sorry. We go to a lot of gigs and I love the memories. I post about 30 seconds on my Instagram plus photos as I enjoy looking back on them. People can scroll by, I don't post for them.

Others post things I find dull, but it's their page.

SwingTheMonkey · 15/05/2024 15:09

Assuming you’re not tied to a chair, with your eyelids held open, being forced to look…

As with all social media, if you don’t want to see it, scroll past.

Whatdoyouexpecthonestly · 15/05/2024 15:09

I love videoing a little clip of gigs and yes I do watch them again. I also like seeing my friends at gigs funnily enough!

SocksAndTheCity · 15/05/2024 15:12

I also like watching back video clips of gigs and events I've been to, although I only ever take brief ones and then put the phone away.

I don't 'post' them on anything because I don't use any of the sites where people do this (no facebook, twitter and so on). It does annoy me at gigs when I'm stuck behind somebody with their phone up in the air recording the entire time.

YoureStuckOnMeLikeATattoohoohoo · 15/05/2024 15:14

I don't film at gigs precisely because everyone else does 🤣 I'm very grateful to the filmers.

I save their videos to watch back.

Begsthequestion · 15/05/2024 15:16

I don't use social media but I definitely find it really annoying when you're trying to watch a gig and most of the audience has their phone in the air and seem to be watching the gig on the screen!

I'd find it really alienating to do that. Bit like being a journalist at an event, instead of a participant. I don't see the point!

Ha. I was going to say the same. I only ever film a few short clips so that I can actually watch, but I’m glad others film more so I can watch theirs.

One of my favourite singers took my phone and filmed himself on stage and made a video saying hi to me which was very cool though so I was glad I was filming a bit. 😍 I don’t them post on social media.

AliceCallous · 15/05/2024 15:30

I both do and don't agree with you.

A good well filmed short clip of a gig can be great for nostalgia. And they can be quite popular on social media.

Someone stood there half pissed, recording for half an hour with their phone on portrait, swaying and bellowing over the music - no they should put their phone away and just enjoy being there. That footage belongs in the bin.

lanya · 15/05/2024 15:35

It can be nice to have a short clip to look back on and remind yourself of the gig.

But I don't understand people who feel the need to video the entire performance and watch it through their little phone screen.

There's a balance between enjoying an experience and capturing a memory.
