How to stop this bloody itch??

Last two weeks my head has been soo itchy, I've tried anti dandruff shampoo and also checked for anything like nits. It's also affecting my face, especially around my jaw line and forehead. The itching is so intense it's driving me mad! No rash or anything that I can see. I do get hayfever but it's never made me itchy before. Not changed washing powder or anything like that. What can I do?

Have you got chickens? Red mite? If they get on you they make you really itchy!

How old are you? I developed similar around 45, I use the Aveeno Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo that helps a lot.

Have you tried an antihistamine?
Have you recently coloured your hair?

hoomanbean3 · 15/05/2024 06:35

I'm early thirties, haven't got chickens or coloured my hair recently. I'll buy some antihistamines today and give that a try. It's literally all I can think about all the time as it's so itchy

I was going to say tea tree shampoo might help your scalp but if it’s spread to your face it might be hay fever. It can make you itch

I would be making a GP appointment if I were you, or at least speaking to a pharmacist.

crumbpet · 15/05/2024 07:23

I'd speak to the pharmacist. There are different antihistamines for different things or you might need to see a GP.

Willmafrockfit · 15/05/2024 07:25

you can get a special shampoo on prescription if needed , see your GP
try sunflower oil in the meantime?

Mummyofthewildones · 15/05/2024 07:26

Have you got children? Could it be headlice?

Seborrheibic dermatitis??
Best shampoo is Vichy dandruff one.
Serozinc spray by Vichy for your face and MooGoo scalp cream (which is a moisturiser despite the name).

I lost all my hair back in 1990 and the start of it was the unbearable itching. Was told by a trichologist that the itching was the root's of my hair dieing. Completely gone within 2 weeks. I'm not suggesting this is what is happening to you at all but I would strongly advise you to get a proper diagnosis.

LittleGreenDragons · 15/05/2024 08:14

We've had warmer weather recently so my money is on a form of sweat reaction. Make sure you rinse your hair more thoroughly, wash it when your scalp is sweaty even if your hair looks fine, and take an anti histamine in the meantime to calm it down.

Changes in hormones can cause itching. The Garnier soothing oat milk shampoo can help scalp and the Aveeno light blue cream can help skin.

I’ve had this before. It went after a while but I got some Aveda shampoo - can’t remember which but it might have been the rosemary one.
