Toddler bed - is this safe

Recently bought my 2 year old her first toddler bed. It's a floor bed with a surround so a box shape if that makes sense.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a standard UK bed frame size and we've struggled to find a mattress that fits. Got one today and it's wide enough but there's a gap at the end of about an inch or so.
I know with small babies there's a lot of safety advice saying that mattresses must be snug fitting in order to prevent them getting stuck in nooks and crannies.
With dd being older and very robust is it ok to have a gap at the end? I could stuff it with a blanket or sheet to fill the gap. And in any case the gap is too small for her to fall down. But I'm still worrying. FWIW the frame has gaps like a little fence so suffocation isn't really possible. Does this sound ok?

That sounds fine. I’d roll up a sheet just to stuff down there and stop it from moving around.

Do you have a photo at all - sorry, struggling to picture what you mean by a floor bed with a surround.. I have visions of a large cardboard box 😁

I wouldn't worry about a 2yo with an inch gap, but if you cut a pool noddle to fill the gap, it should stop the mattress moving.

If it's only an inch I'd say it's there to make getting a sheet on easier! Like you say you could stuff a blanket in the end for security

That's the end of the bed by the way not the side.

It wouldn’t even occur to me to be worried about this with my two year old. It’ll get filled up by random toys and books in a week in any event!

Is that an ikea bed? Looks a bit like my toddler DS’s did back in the day. The gap is useful for putting the fitted sheet on. I’d just push it up flush to the top so the gap is at the bottom. Sometimes I tucked the duvet under the bottom edge too but even if you don’t it’ll be fine for a two year old.

Thank you. Can you tell she has co slept with me for the past 2 years 🙈

It's fine. If your child was in a normal toddler bed there'd be a gap between the bed and wall of an inch or 2
