Cleaning is just not one of my many great qualities! I am trying to keep our new place clean and already feel like I am losing the battle. I need:

  1. A POWERFUL lighweight cordless vacuum. Looked at Shark but reviews seem iffy-please recommend specific models if you can. I havr Henry and it is a pain to move around so I don'xt do it often enough
  2. Tips on how to keep the bathroom clean-the slowly creeping mould around the bathtub/shower is killing me

I know you have secrets because there are some lovely houses out there...I can't believe everyone spend their nights scrubbing floors with toothbrushes or something😂

I don't know but I want to :-D

Peonies12 · 13/05/2024 20:49

We have a Bosch cordless it’s great, I run it round every day. Try and dry the bathroom after use and keep it ventilated. The HG mould foam is good too. Honestly having less stuff is a massive help, so much quicker to clean. And doing a little each day

Motheranddaughter · 13/05/2024 20:49

Cleaner 2x a week

WhereAreAllTheBendyBusses · 13/05/2024 20:49

Shark all the way never an issue

Bathroom. Wiped down daily . Window vac all tiles after shower.
Window open permanently.

Phrenology · 13/05/2024 20:51

toomuchfaff · 13/05/2024 20:52

This is fabulous for mould!

milkonesugar36 · 13/05/2024 20:54

Cleaners... two of them come together and do 3 hours so equivalent to six hours cleaning every fortnight

Letsbuildazoo · 13/05/2024 20:54

HG mould spray, no scrubbing needed it just eats the mould.

Amsterdamming · 13/05/2024 20:55

Cleaner here too! 2x hours once a week - best £30 a week I've ever spent.

EyeEyeElCapitan · 13/05/2024 20:57

I love my Shark. I'll try and find the model for you, although we've had it a couple of years now.

I had a Bosch previously (I see a PP has mentioned these) and it was awful absolutely awful. The Shark has been life-changing.

I also have a Robot hoover and she's great for running around daily to help keep on top of the floors.

I'm a shit housekeeper - but little and often is what I TRY to do. So for example wipe down the bathroom sink when I clean my teeth, wipe down the bath after the children have had their bath. Try to always clean as a go when cooking...

Spray mop is also my friend for keeping hard floors clean and mopping up spills when they happen. I have loads of the pads, so once one is used I can bung in in the wash and there is always another clean one waiting... I do have a proper mop by the spray mop is my favourite and sees the most use!

If I think of anything else I'll add it...

FindingMeno · 13/05/2024 20:57

Air purifier to cut down dust.

buffyslayer · 13/05/2024 20:58

Method daily shower spray every day
HG mould remover

I set a timer and do 15-30 mins daily

WarriorN · 13/05/2024 20:58

Mould tends to need the proper mould blaster unfortunately and then a good scrub to get rid of anything it could be clinging to. You can usually keep on top of it after that but I find I have to do it 3-4 times a year.

House is a nightmare but as the kids have got older I've worked out some routines that seem to work.

Getting "stuff" organised so it's easy to tidy up is half the battle.

RosesAndHellebores · 13/05/2024 21:05

Floors weekly.
Steam mop for hard floors
Vacuum for carpets; Miele and a Dyson cordless for spills.
Kitchen gets done as I go
Windows every 8 weeks
Bathrooms, we keep clean as we go
Dusting - a floor a week
Paintwork - every six months
Tidying daily (don't put it down, put it away)
Tidy every night before bed (takes as little as two minutes, never more than five)
Mornings - empty dishwasher, empty washing machine, bung on another load.

Cleaner does the first 8 things and the ironing, six hours a week. Paintwork is an extra. Windowcleaner does windows.

We keep the house clean and tidy daily.

Mum2jenny · 13/05/2024 21:15

House is a tip, but it’s our tip, it’ll get sorted eventually

Rainydayze · 13/05/2024 21:16

Have the shark anti hair wrap corded pet vacuum. Love it. Previously had Dyson, Shark is better and lifts away from base for stairs.

fungipie · 13/05/2024 21:18

I don't. I clean it regularly, and it does not remain clean as I have pets and I am in and out of the garden. That is fine. I do squeejee the shower and dry with soft cloth every day, clean loo and bathroom sink everyday. Then we live in the house, until we clean again.

Loafbeginsat60 · 13/05/2024 21:26

I try and hoover every couple of days. We don't wear shoes in the house so the floors don't need mopping that often.

I have the Dyson pet cordless Hoover thing and it's great but it doesn't last that long - maybe only 15 mins on full power mode

I clean the bathroom as I'm using it.

Do skirtings once a month with the Hoover nozzle and a damp cloth.

Clean the kitchen every night when putting dishwasher on.

Beds changed every week on my day off

Pit a load of washing on every night and hang it up in the morning.

catsnore · 13/05/2024 21:44

Spray any mouldy areas on shower with Mould and Mildew remover. Leave for five mins and then clean as usual. Just check you can use it on your tiles first. For stubborn mould you may have to leave it on for longer. I have a few spots where I leave it on overnight.

We've got a cordless Henry which does the job and is a lot cheaper than Dyson equivalent, also easier to empty.

mrlistersgelfbride · 13/05/2024 22:11

Cleaner.
Maximise every minute of time. .ie.
-Kettle boiling? Throw some rubbish away.
-Child watching TV? Do washing up, wipe down work tops.

I never go upstairs or downstairs without taking something.
Hoover every night no matter the time...partner and child has always been used to noise 🤣
On Sunday clear the laundry basket and out away any laundry so at least you are starting afresh for the week.

AdoraBell · 13/05/2024 22:19

Vacuum most days. Clean shower with Method cleaner.

Bluesuitredtie · 13/05/2024 22:28

Eufy Robovac. Set it hoovering and then moping floors (I like to keep an eye on it using my phone so don’t run it during the night). I deep clean corners about once a month but am super happy with it (actually I love its mop feature almost more than the hoovering I bought it for). Then I do other cleaning things (or not) whilst it cracks on.

i keep a kitchen sponge cut in half on the bathroom sink and give it a quick clean every morning after brushing my teeth.

whilst waiting for hot to kick in on the shower I rinse all the tiles down, at the end of my shower I quickly rinse all the tiles again down to remove any shower gel residue. A squeegee blade to quickly wipe down the tiles and the door removes a lot of excess water on the tiles and helps combat mould.

ventilation is the answer to mould. Make sure you have an adequate fan to remove moisture in the air, air flow is also key to the fan working efficiently. Open a window a bit (if bathroom has no window open a window in another room and leave door open for a while).

Copperoliverbear · 13/05/2024 22:38

Cleaner once or twice a week, plus a rota for jobs and light weight hoover, Dyson or g tech Air ram cordless.

CrushingOnRubies · 13/05/2024 22:45

The shark we have is awful

You roll
It over some dirt and when you roll it away there's more dirt there than there was before. It's also got as much umph as a mouse's breath

HaystackHair · 13/05/2024 22:45

I don't.
