Why is there so much tonsilitis around at the moment?

There seems to be loads of tonsilitis around at the moment, is it just me or is it more than normal, and it’s taking longer to shift? Feeling sorry for myself with it as I write this!

uk is the only country that got rid of covid vaccines, the most amazing achievement in the last 4 years, binned by the UK... Covid infection can lower the immunity, it can take up to 6 months for immunity to get back to normal. While immunity is low, other infections can follow: it's not normal for everyone to be ill. it wasn't normal before the pandemic, it's quite extraordinary how UK managed to normalize any consequences of ignoring a novel virus for which they binned treatments(antivirals) and prevention (vaccines), then they stopped monitoring it altogether(ONS stopped counting) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/at-least-550-million-of-covid-drugs-wasted-in-the-uk/

I hope you will feel better soon. Take it easy and just wait for it to pass, which it will.
It's almost summer now and these types of infections are not normal during summer. It's not normal for everyone to be ill.

At least £550 million of Covid drugs wasted in the UK

Britain’s unused stock is the highest in Europe, with more than one million expired antiviral courses – a figure that could double by June

Interesting, having not had tonsillitis for about a decade I’ve had it twice since March. The pp makes some good points and I hadn’t thought it could be part of a wider picture.

Some things that cause tonsillitis are contagious - like scarlet fever, so it can cause epidemics.

I did have antibiotics, I felt really unwell with it. I hope you’re starting to feel better 💐

Most of the time tonsillitis is caused by a virus. Antivirals are used for viral infections. If they suspect a bacterial infection, Strep A needs to be tested for, because it is a notifiable disease, then the GP is forced by law to notify PHE. PHE would then contact the patient to advise about transmission, prevention, treatment. Strep A can cause scarlet fever.
Tonsils are the sight for many infections. They can also be a reservoir for SarsCov2 in children. ''In the present study, we describe how SARS-CoV-2 can silently infect palatine tonsils and adenoids from asymptomatic children.'' https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9582977/ - but this is a study about children, I am not sure about adults
