Do I send DS to school tomorrow?

He’s in reception and he’s had thick green snot the past two days, no signs of illness in himself other than this.
The problem is, he can’t blow or wipe his nose effectively (he’s 5 and I have tried!) so (sorry if TMI) he has green snot encrusted around his nostrils and it looks awful. I’ve been wiping off with a damp flannel, but an hour or so later and it’s back.
I guess I’m worried about him being teased or picked on at school tomorrow and it looking awful in general.
But he’s not unwell in himself, still bouncing on the trampoline, playing etc. and no definitely fever.

I would. Loads of reception kids are snotty grot monsters.

Send him in but get him to practise to wipe his nose today. Show him in the mirror what it looks like and where to wipe. Persevere because he can do it even if not as effective as you.

Yes! Send him in with a pack of wet wipes to wipe his nose.

See what it's like in the morning. On the one hand he is probably ok to be in school - but on the other hand it's not nice for the teacher or TAs to deal with or for him. I would give it a day at home if it's not better tomorrow morning.

Send him in. Let the teacher know he is struggling to wipe his nose and they will keep and eye and help if needed.

Send him, they all look like this

ComfyBoobs · 12/05/2024 12:20

Yes, of course!

SmileyClare · 12/05/2024 12:20

Yeah send him in with some tissues or wet wipes in his pocket if he’s not feeling ill.

Green snot in little ones is common when they have colds- it’s a good sign his antibodies are working hard to get rid of the virus.

Children shouldn’t be kept off school for a cold. It’s common to see the younger ones with snot on their face or sleeves! 😬

Staff working in early years are very used to dealing with snot. Normally down our tops after a child has been upset!

honestly OP don’t worry about it.
