Of the increased risk of drowning in these warm periods of weather that we are having in the UK- it takes seconds for a small child to drown in a paddling pool that's left eyes off for a moment at a BBQ for example. Large bodies of water are extra tempting to young people never mind full blown adults and especially with added alcohol they can be a potential death trap.

Of course the worst case scenario is death but it is as possible that a person be left with life changing injuries (brain) as a result of a drowning episode. Secondary drowning also is a less spoken about problem too.

Yes. I knew a whole family destroyed by the death by drowning of a small child. Child and older brother (he was about 5!) left in garden for couple of minutes, younger child drowned in shallow pond, older brother destroyed by a sense of responsibility forever, never lived an independent life and never got over it.
Terrible.
Thank you @rokaaroundthechristmastree

YANBU. As someone who has always lived at the coast can I add a plea to not buy your children inflatables. They should never be used on the beach. You have no idea how fast they can be swept out to sea.

DB is on the lifeboats. They don't manage to save everybody.

Absolutely, the sea is to be respected!
