To spray my neighbours cat?

With water?

I love cats, I have a cat myself.

I also have 2 dogs that are very well behaved and get along with my cat perfectly and will ignore cats on walks etc.

But next doors cat is an absolute wind up merchant and sits on the wall meowing at my dogs who take great offense to this and bark their heads off.

It's a very densely populated area and this sets off other dogs barking.

The dogs are quiet at all other times apart from when the wind up cat is on the wall saying something to them in cat language which I can only imagine involves a lot of name calling and 'yo mama' jokes.

It's getting warmer now so we've had the back door open alot more and the dogs have been happy plodding about in the garden but several times a day this happens.

It would be quite funny, the way the cat sits there, dangling his arm off the wall meowing at them.

But I don't think the neighbour appreciates the racket either as he came out shouting at the cat to get down and leave the dogs alone.

I'm not actually 100% sure it is the neighbours cat but it's obviously local and to complicate things he often sits on the adjoining wall so if he is the neighbours cat he's sat on his own shared wall really isn't he?

I can't put up anything on the wall to stop him as I have my own cat who needs to get in and out of the garden.

I said to DH a little squirt of water a few times might stop him doing it but I wouldn't want to upset the neighbour.

The dogs don't bark at any other time so I don't want to make them wear a barking collar or get a sonic barking thing either.

There's several cats that sit on the wall and the dogs aren't arsed at all. They just hate this one cat!

How very dare you. There is that brave evangelical moggy trying to save your dogs souls by following them as their deity.

Supper soaker, have cats love cats some are pure out and out dicks, water gun all the way. Just hope the cat doesn't develop opposable thumbs, then we are all in trouble 🤣

bridgetreilly · 11/05/2024 09:19

Do it.

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 11/05/2024 09:41

Crack on OP.
It's not going to harm them really but might just do the trick in getting the message across to clear off. Avoid aiming it toward their face/eyes though.

Nicebloomers · 11/05/2024 09:46

Yes. Cat owner and cat lover here, but if any cat is being a dick a quick spritz is perfectly fine to put them in their place.

I’m considering employing it as a technique to subdue annoying humans.

Hendalle · 11/05/2024 09:50

I do. Neighbours cat has a habit of goading my idiot dog, so both of them get a little spray of water. Dog to pack it in, and cat to bugger off 😁

I’ve tried reasoning with the cat, knowing they are superior beings, but they keep coming back.

Ponoka7 · 11/05/2024 09:54

My male cat is an absolute twat, I'm OK with people spraying him and told my neighbour to. He only sits in her tree when her dog is out. As said, just don't aim at the face, or use very cold water etc.

Longtimelurkerfinallyposts · 11/05/2024 10:26

why exactly does your cat NEED to get in and out of your garden?
so it can go and shit in the neighbours' gardens?!

Bearpawk · 11/05/2024 10:56

Yep I wouldn't hesitate to do this. It's only water, not poison.

qpid5tunt · 11/05/2024 16:16

A super soaker is just NOT acceptable. Far to harsh. A well rinsed out washing up liquid bottle does the job. (Aim for his bum and not his face though please OP🫶🏻)

Sapphire387 · 11/05/2024 16:22

I'd be inclined to spray the dogs. They're the ones making a racket, after all.

Theoriginalmrscillianmurphy · 11/05/2024 16:24

I spray my own cat

therejustbarely · 11/05/2024 16:48

We are 💯 cat lovers but sometimes arsehole neighbour cats need to clear off. We have a cat who keeps sneaking into the house and causing mayhem with our own cats. We've started spraying near him with water, he doesn't actually get wet.

KimberleyClark · 11/05/2024 16:56

I misread the title as “To spay my neighbour’s cat”!

Okayornot · 11/05/2024 17:03

If spray my own cats if they were misbehaving. No qualms at all about this.

lovenotwar149 · 11/05/2024 17:05

Spray away!!

They would LOVE that 😂😂 One picks the hose up and brings it to me to spray them

I would pray but with a mister rather than a shot of cold water from a hose. You can always escalate to hose if the misting doesn't work.

cakecoffeecakecoffee · 11/05/2024 19:33

Yanbu.

I love cats and have several…. We’ve always told the neighbours to spray them with a bit of water if they need to get them away.

we had one of our cats shot by a neighbour which was very upsetting 😞

RandomMess · 11/05/2024 19:42

YANBU
My first cat used to wind up next doors dog mercilessly, the dog missed our cat when he died. Always sat looking for him and the paw under her gate or parading along the fence or waiting our side of the trellis.

Well since cat owners do nothing to contain their animals it's up to the rest of us to contain their freedom .

tedgran · 11/05/2024 20:21

Citronella oil mixed in with the water, cats hate citrus, it won't hurt them, obviously avoid the eyes. I have had cats.
