Driving to Cornwall over night - tips needed

We booked our yearly holiday to St Just/Cape Cornwall last year but unfortunately found out the Friday we go is also the day of my dds prom. We are going for a week.

im planning on driving down (6 hours) straight after prom as it finishes at 9.30.

DH wants to drive down in the day with dd7 and ds14 and dog but I feel sad that he will miss her prom. We would follow in my car after.

what would you do? I really don’t fancy driving on Saturday when it’s probably going to be super busy on the roads.

do I just drink loads of energy drinks to keep me awake?! 😩

Why is DH going to miss her prom?
Can he not just leave straight after she’s gone?

I live in Cornwall and regularly do the long drive.

I am not a night owl and can’t do a long drive late afternoon/evening.

When I do a long journey I will leave between 3am-5am.

Its dark but very, very quiet and then when you start getting tired it starts getting lighter and you start feeling more awake.
You then have the full day there.

I always need to stop for a wee though.

If I was your DH, I would see DD into her prom and then leave.

And then if I was you, I would leave after picking DD up late evening/nighttime or very early morning.

Just be mindful of any overnight closures on the M42 or M5 - as they aren't always that easy to find out about and you don't want another hour added to your journey with detours and A roads!

Conversely don't think you can speed down the motorway as there are a lot of average speed sections and a lot of traffic monitoring.
