Posting here so it can be seen.

I'm autistic and have bad anxiety and rarely go out.
I hate people coming to the house and don't see people.

My daughter's hamster died and the cage was £100. Usually I'd not bother selling but as she paid I have to.

It's sold for £50. They want to come now.

• How can I prove they have taken it.
• How do I bring up the money? Ideally I'd like bank transfer.
• What if they try to give me less?
• What if they don't pay at all?
• What if they say it's damaged?

I've heard stories of people being mugged from sellers on Facebook.

Thanks.
Thanks.

Cash not bank transfer

Bank transfer can be recalled (it happened to a friend of mine)

I think they key is to be very firm but polite and take no nonsense.
I have had good experiences with FB marketplace but a few CF's too but I took no nonsense.
Its better that you take cash though or they would have to transfer before (unlikley), while they stood there (awkward) or after they left (risky).
You cant prove they have taken it though but I wouldnt worry about that and items are sold as seen so if they try and claim its faulty later then just don't engage.
People do try and offer less, the last one to do that got nowhere with me as I told him (after he tried to argue for a bit) that he had 2 choices - get back in his car and leave or hand over the £ and take the item and if he didnt do the latter in the next 10 seconds he was cetainly doing the former.
Best thing is to stay very calm and business like and don't engage if they try to pull a fast one

Honestly, most people are good and it'll be fine. It's a relatively small amount so the chances of someone being a con artist to get a £50 hamster cage are very small. I too have social anxiety, not to the extent you do but I am very unsure of these things too. Just remember that most people are good and so long as they're not being cagey on the messages it'll most likely be absolutely fine.

I once had someone on Facebook hand over £20 less than I asked for, I brought up the error on the doorstep and they insisted that the price advertised was £20 less. I was too awkward to argue more so I accepted the lower amount. Once they'd gone I got a message apologising because they'd got it wrong and had checked the advert. They posted a £20 note through my door the next day. Most people will be good and honest. You can do this OP!

As for the bank transfer you could ask, people may be more comfortable with PayPal. I'd message before they arrive, if you don't they'll be expecting to pay cash.

I've had awful experiences with eBay and eBay always seem to refund the buyer even though I have a really good record of 20 years.

Thank you.

FB marketplace have no recourse to take your money back.
Only do cash.
Definitely don't do PayPal.

I always say - the item is here if you'd like to check you're happy with it. Then they can't claim afterwards that it's damaged. If there are any moving parts I show them how to use things so they don't bother me afterwards and they know that it's working.

I've never not been given the money but I'd just say 'right, it was listed for £x' and look at them. If they then asked for it to be sold for less (which has never happened to me - haggling seems to happen before agreeing pick up) I'd not agree unless there had been no interest from anyone else, or the item was not as described (eg they'd spotted something that wasn't on your listing). If I was saying no I'd say 'sorry I'm not accepting less than £x for it at the moment as after I'd agreed to sell it to you I had lots of offers at that price'. Chances are they will have bought the right cash with them anyway.

You can't prove they took it but you also can't prove they took your money- I don't think any Facebook scams work like that (I think if someone wants to scam you they'd be talking about bank transfers and couriers).

Good luck!

Hi they have collected it and paid cash. I felt bad taking the money and i didn't check it but it was correct 😂😂

I talked so much crap and things I said didn't make sense. So embarrassing.

Thank
You x
