Is using a garden kneeler/seat ok for a range of ages

Or is it a sign of a kind of surrender.

I'm not that old but I have a tricky hip since a mountain bike accident during Covid.

I'm worried it might be like using a wheely shopping thing.

I used to use one in my teens, purely because we had one. Way more comfortable.

Who cares what it looks like - look after your back and joints.

I used one when I did alot of garden work, no indication of age imo.

It's just a tool, like you wouldn't think digging with your hands is more worthy if you had a trowel to hand.

Nowt wrong with a wheely shopping thing. I see loads of young people using them now.

I have one with handles too, like a tiny upturned trestle table. Ace for heaving yourself up. (Also carrying a mountain bike injury from a few years ago)

I use those pads you strap on your knees. Used them for years. I'm 45 now

Topofthemountain · 08/05/2024 19:36

Do you mean one like this? I have one and it is fab, no real difference to the bog standard kneeler, but with the advantage that it is more comfortable as you don't end up spending scrunched up behind the knees.

I've got this. It's brilliant.Turn it upside down and you have a seat.Been using it for years, since my mid-50's

I bought one of those a couple of years ago. I also bought one for a friend. DH has now started using mine. We're 60 & 62 but fit and with no injuries.

ohtowinthelottery · 08/05/2024 19:42

I also bought a long handled small fork and trowel.

Not at all

Timeforabiscuit · 09/05/2024 12:46

While we are at it, shower grab rails and bannister rails on both sides of the stairs.

Game changer!

My teens use them more than me as they are actually useful to have to stop slips in the shower when shaving your ankles and getting up stairs.

Not what you asked but have you looked at functional fitness to strengthen your hip and body in general. It’s amazing how quickly you start feeling stronger and more mobile.

Personally I’m a squatter in the garden, a cushion would be another thing to lug around! But if I needed one I would use one.
