Brilliant things those spare bedrooms. in my 40s during my peri- menopause stage, I must have slept walked into the spare room as I would wake up in there. Like getting between wet sheets as they were so cold- sheer heaven. Now I am on ,HRT, back in with hubby & can now cuddle up without shrugging him off me- that’s heaven too

We stayed in one in the summer where it could be booked as a one bedroom or two bedroom place. Door locked to second bedroom if not booked.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 04/09/2024 08:13

£40 to make up another room is ridiculous, yes.

Unless you paid a price per person rather than for the whole place, which I’ve never seen with a bnb, they should automatically be made up.

Edingril · 04/09/2024 08:15

But what was in the details before you booked, did you read all the information?

Tell her you are NOT sharing a bed with your brother!

I agree this is the reply to send

Starlingexpress · 04/09/2024 08:19

Just another reason to boycott Airbnb.

Scarlettpixie · 04/09/2024 08:23

So long as there is nothing about a discount if only only one room is used that you somehow booked then yabnu.

I travel with DS and we look for places with 2 doubles. Last year we booked a place with 3 bedrooms and all three rooms (all doubles) were made up. When we were about to leave I messaged the owner to say we hadn’t used the 3rd room only to put our bags on the floor and had kept the door shut. She was grateful for the info as it would be less for the cleaners to do. They did offer a discount if only one room was used and I have seen at other places do this too but you have to let them know and it is a discount for less rooms not an extra charge for using what is booked.

HarrietHedgehog · 04/09/2024 08:29

You are not being unreasonable but you are renting an air b&b. The sooner they’re banned, the better imo.

Mischance · 04/09/2024 08:39

How many is the property advertised as sleeping? If it says it sleeps 3 or 4 then the bed should be available.

KimberleyClark · 04/09/2024 09:07

Ridiculous. We udually book somewhere with at least two bedrooms so we can sleep apart if necessary. (DH is not the only culprit here as far as snoring goes.)

Indianajet · 04/09/2024 09:17

I booked a two bedroom cottage last year for just me and the dog - both beds made up, no extra charge.

CarlaH · 04/09/2024 09:25

We have certainly had the odd cottage where the owners have decided to only make up one room. It's a bloody cheek and anyway even if you do only want to use one room it's not for them to choose which room is it.

As others have said why would you book a place with two bedrooms if you only want one.

StamppotAndGravy · 04/09/2024 10:46

If it's in France, it's normal to pay a laundry fee per bed/person. It's also fine to take your own instead of paying the fee but will mean you don't get towels or dish clothes

GnomeMoreTears · 04/09/2024 11:26

We had the same this summer, but the booking was through an agency and not Air BnB

We're a family of 5, with 3 older teens, so always book a 4 bed. We were told by housekeeper when we arrived (no queries previously and nothing in property info) that owner had told her to make up twin beds in one room and not to prepare the fourth room.

Really annoying and very cheeky - if we'd wanted to share rooms, we'd have saved a fortune and booked a smaller house!
