Is it OTT to send DD’s Y6 teachers/team a gift during SATs Week?

Cat2024 · 08/05/2024 15:25

My DD’s teacher/ TAs have been really supportive. Would it be OTT to send in some chocolates or biscuits for SATs week (next week) or would it be better to wait until the end of the year to do a gift then as part of leaving? My DD thinks it would be ‘really embarrassing’ but she thinks most things are right now. 😆Any Y6 teachers/ other Y6 parents in particular, what do you think? Thank you.

No - it’s a lovely thought and they will be delighted! I am TA in KS1 and I can honestly say our staff would be touched.

PatriciaHolm · 08/05/2024 15:33

I sent it biscuits at the end and they were very well received!

Gingercatlover · 08/05/2024 15:35

Can't go wrong with biscuits, cake or chocolate in the staff room, lovely thought.

Bournetilly · 08/05/2024 15:37

It’s a nice thought but I agree with your DD it’s OTT and embarrassing. I would wait to give it as a leaving gift. If you do send them I wouldn’t do it in front of your DD/ her classmates.

BabyRace · 08/05/2024 15:38

Teachers always appreciate biscuits. Do it!

Snowdropsarelovely · 08/05/2024 15:39

As a teacher I think this would be lovely !

Bootoagoose123 · 08/05/2024 15:41

Yes that would be very appreciated- it's a stressful week snd often lots of members of staff co opted from round the school to support etc so nice to thank all the adults for chipping in! If she finds it embarrassing maybe drop them off directly to the office who can pop them straight in the staff room?

crumblingschools · 08/05/2024 15:42

That would be nice. Especially as many staff provide treats for the children during SATS week

Bellaboo01 · 08/05/2024 15:43

For the sake of a box of biscuits etc. Just be lead by your Daughter. if she said she would find it embarrassing then don't do it. She just needs to concentrate on her SATS and not have the worry of being embarrassed by taking in the teachers presents.

If you really want to do it - just drop it into the school office.

Pogointospring · 08/05/2024 15:50

I’d do it, but I’d do it via the school office to put in the staffroom rather than give gifts to individuals directly in front of your daughter (which I can see might be awkward).

I don’t see how some token consumable items to share with the team in the staff room can ever be OTT unless you’re doing it on a weekly basis or you write a particularly gushy accompanying card!

DisruptiveCumin · 09/05/2024 11:58

Definitely do that, but maybe not in front of your DD and maybe wait a bit. Has she explained why exactly would it be OTT, did she mean she would feel like you're trying to bribe the teacher or something? I know at 11 I felt same, so I can see her point, haha! On the other hand, it's a nice gesture, not like you're going to play a whole smartshow 3d video in the hallway praising the teacher left and right, so nothing really over the top here.

Greyheronsarethebest · 09/05/2024 12:01

for Sats weeks it's a bit much I think :)

crumbpet · 09/05/2024 12:02

Utterly ridiculous. Yes teachers or TAs on here will say they'd like it but it's so over the top. Do you buy shop keepers biscuits for doing their jobs? Buying them something specifically for SATS week suggests it's a stressful week for them but it shouldn't be about them. It's bizarre almost infantalising behaviour.

GabriellaMontez · 09/05/2024 12:05

Agree with @crumbpet . It's utterly ridiculous.

And it fuels the drama that already surrounds SATS.

Yes the whole idea should be to make it as "normal" as possible not to pile on the pressure and anxiety of EXAMS

But you do tip waiters and hairdressers!

My daughter is also in year 6 and although I think it's a lovely idea, if my daughter didn't want me to do it because she would be embarrassed, then I absolutely would listen to her and not send anything in.

Londonrach1 · 09/05/2024 13:58

Do, better now than all at once at the end of term

Seashor · 09/05/2024 14:46

They would be absolutely delighted. This I know from experience.

Crunchymum · 09/05/2024 14:50

I am anti SATs but appreciate the children and teachers alike have to suck it up.

Am tempted to send in a box of Krispy Kremes for the Y6 staff next Friday, just as an acknowledgement of all the work involved.

The kids have an out of school activity on the Friday which has been organised by the year 6 team to reward the kids. Want to acknowledge the teachers as well.
