Aibu to be unsure if this is a compliment or something bad?

I'm not sure either! But it might be meant as a compliment as a way of saying 'you make me dizzy' ...it all depends on how it was said.

KidsandKindness · 07/05/2024 12:36

Need more context OP

beenoutontheopenroad · 07/05/2024 12:51

I’ve recently started seeing someone, we’re only two dates in but have spoken a lot too (we live in different cities) and that’s what he’s text me.

I can’t say I look forward to being seasick so it can’t be a compliment can it?

This is why I’m confused

Could he be meaning its like a rollercoaster with you?
I'm thinking of Anne Boleyn apparently saying she felt like a "storm tossed maiden" in her relationship with Henry 8th 😂😂

AceofPentacles · 07/05/2024 12:54

Was it a typo ? 🤣

BranchGold · 07/05/2024 12:55

Is English his first language?

I would take it to mean you give him butterflies/a physical feeling of excitement being around you.

HowToSaveAWife · 07/05/2024 12:57

"Is that meant to be a compliment?" should clear this up for you.

Maddy70 · 07/05/2024 12:58

Seeing you. Autocorrect fail

Eastofe · 07/05/2024 13:02

Maybe they like the wombats? I think its meant to be a compliment in 'kill the director'

KidsandKindness · 07/05/2024 14:27

I too think he might mean you give him butterflies in his tummy, ie, he's excited by you

Boxerdor · 07/05/2024 14:29

Maybe he loves boats and being sea sick is great for him

usedtobeasizeten · 07/05/2024 14:30

Well, being seasick makes me vomit….🤷🏼‍♀️

BusterGonad · 07/05/2024 14:34

Does he like The Wombats by any chance.

I didn't notice your post there.

RichardsGear · 07/05/2024 14:38

I'd have to reply saying, 'I'm not sure if this is a compliment or not!'

utilitarianism · 07/05/2024 14:40

If the context is that he seems happy otherwise, I'd assume he means it as a compliment, even if it's an odd comparison. It's common for people to say the have butterflies when they think about the person they love, and that's not far off from seasickness.

But if you're not sure, I'd ask in a lighthearted way. Something like, 'Oh, in a good way, I hope!'

KreedKafer · 07/05/2024 14:41

Way more info needed. Firstly:

  1. Did he just text you with this out of the blue or was it in the course of a conversation?
  2. Were the dates nice?
  3. Is English his first language?
  4. Why haven't you just asked him 'What do you mean?!'

My guess is that what he actually means is 'you give me butterflies', ie he means that nervous/excited feeling that makes your tummy flutter when you first meet someone, but has just expressed it very clumsily.

Although arguably, still not much of a compliment since, 'if this is a romcom, kill the director' doesn't sound like they're enjoying the overall experience...

LakeTiticaca · 07/05/2024 16:00

Seasickness is absolutely awful so can't imagine what he means 🤣

YeahComeOnThen · 07/05/2024 16:03

WTF??

& that's what I'd reply!

Celticliving · 07/05/2024 16:17

"Erm... Ok.. can you please explain what you mean by that cos I am baffled" 🤣

Why not just ask him what he means by that?
