to ask about wellness retreats

I guess there's going to be negative opinions about these places, but I hope I'm being reasonable to at least be curious.

The retreats I've heard of are-
Hippocrates
Gerson
Barbara O'Nesl
Jason Vale

I suspect there are others that i have no knowledge of...

Have any mumsnetters any personal experience of such places, or know someone who's had an experience at one?

Please don't berate me for asking, as I expect some will think they are either a scam or a waste of money.

The way I'm viewing it, is to use it as a kind of holiday where I can learn best ways of looking after my health and wellness, not only for the length of time spent at whichever place, but to bring that knowledge home with me and use it in my everyday life going forward.

I'm not so much interested in prolonging my life in order to live as many years as possible, but however long I am on this earth for, I'd like my quality of life to be the best I can make it.

I want to remain as strong and independent as possible, and not have to be "looked after"...

Presently I try to eat as healthily as I know how, and always willing to learn.
I keep active, and I exercise daily for roughly half an hour (sometimes a little more) which includes rebounding, weights, and the usual warm up and cool down stretches.

I'd be really interested to know of anyones experience of the retreats I've mentioned above, and/or ones you can name that I've not heard of..

I know I've posted on AIBU, but please be kind in any reply, whether you've found positivity on not.

Thank you 🙏🏻

If it makes a difference, I'll be seventy this year.

Sorry, I forgot to say that I don't know how to provide "links" to the websites of above places...

hi there... I would reccommend you look into ayurvedic wellness retreats in India - there are many.

BigMandyHarris · 07/05/2024 03:45

I’m interested too 😊

I've never been but would love to.
If you are doing something you feel is good for your mind, body and spirit, and can afford it, I can't see why not.

It sounds like you already have a very good wellness routine! I went to one years ago and was a bit underwhelmed. Sorry I can't remember the name. I remember that it felt a bit humourless/severe, no butter on the tables with the bread, very small meal portions, etc.

I know others who love these types of things.

Just be reassured that you sound very well and fit as it is and any holiday/break should work for you and make you excited to attend. Good luck!

I went to this one . It was amazing and I have a return trip planned. I don’t like yoga that much and there was plenty else to do ..or just relax there is no pressure.

Ooooooo!!! Thank you to the posters so far.. really appreciate the responses 🥰
I should’ve also mentioned that I’ve been plant-based for almost ten years.. I must admit that really helped me to wake up to my personal health… I lost two stone, and my waist size decreased by a good four inches, but I think the daily exercise (although only half an hour ish) helped tone up everything.
Before, when I was on a conventional food plan, I swore blind that I couldn’t get below the weight I was, and I HATED exercise.
I found my motivation late in life, and wish I’d taken action earlier, 🤷‍♀️but hey? better late than never.

I went to Kamalaya last year and it sounds like it's everything you're looking for! There's nothing I can fault about it. The grounds were stunning, the treatments fantastic and the food healthy but oh so delicious! There's also lots of classes yoga, meditation, fitness so always an option to be doing something if you want.

Thank you… was the food plant based?

Thank you… was the food plant based?

It’s not 100% but there are plenty of plant based options. In fact breakfast was mostly vegetables and some incredible homemade nut milks

I’ve actually been to Fivelements too which is 100% plant based and beautiful but more of a focus on yoga, meditation (no fitness apart from gym) so I’d say like a smaller scale of Kamalaya.
