Feeling proper stabby

Marshmallowandcustard · 06/05/2024 20:53

Is it just me but some things make me proper stabby!

Ive had a prettt chilled out day. Got loads of domestic jobs done but still relaxed. Dh been to golf for the day. Both dc doing revision for exams.

however tonight they’ve all descended. The kids are play fighting (which pisses me off), dh is ignoring anything that requires effort (tidying up after dinner, telling kids to calm down).

Im walking round in a whirl of multi tasking and chaos. My head is spinning with all the bedlam.

just sat down on sofa having send the kids to get things ready for tomorrow, and dh has sat down with a bag of kettle chips and is crunching every single crisp… crunch crunch, rattle rattle!!!!!!

Please don’t use ‘stabby’ in that throwaway fashion. Kids are being killed by knives every day and this just trivialises the idea.

The rest is just normal family life, which you’re lucky to have.

You’ll call me all sorts of names for this post, but if you’ve ever known someone killed with a knife, you wouldn’t use that phrase again.

katebushh · 06/05/2024 21:00

Stabby is not a word, please don't try to make it one.

Marshmallowandcustard · 06/05/2024 21:00

I’m sorry

Have to agree 'stabby' not a great use of our language

ToxicChristmas · 06/05/2024 21:01

They don't sound like the crimes of the century, but maybe you are just having one of those days. Nobody can eat kettle chips silently!
Go for a walk or go upstairs to your bedroom and have a bit of time alone.

I’m sorry

Don't worry you were making a light hearted thread and got flamed..I get your gist

Velvetbee · 06/05/2024 21:03

Fully empathise with your rage. Other people are frequently bloody irritating even when you love them.

Not as irritating as multiple posts policing language.

I get you OP. Mine seems to get very loud on an evening. Vape vape, sniff. Then clouds of vape plume.

I could make a song but he goes out of order too often with a few coughs thrown in.

I almost wish he'd go back to smoking. At least he used to go outside to do it. Why do people constantly suck on those things?!

He's gone to bed now and I miss him Grin

TwattyMcFuckFace · 06/05/2024 21:12

Fucking hell OP I bet you wish you hadn't bothered.

Good job you didn't say you were 'gunning' for him 🙄

gamerchick · 06/05/2024 21:17

Whole thread would implode I think.

Playingintheshadow · 06/05/2024 21:18

I don't blame you!

For god's sake people, nobody actually got stabbed...

OP, do you have secret cameras in my house?

You’ve just copied my day!

AloeVerity · 06/05/2024 21:21

Oh my! Way to ruin a lighthearted thread by deliberately looking to be offended 🙄 (I’ve seen that self same expression used on here hundreds of times over the years, often in relation to PMT and/or peri.)

I get what you mean, OP. It’s been a dreary bank holiday weekend here and it will do everyone good to be back in routine tomorrow.

Marshmallowandcustard · 06/05/2024 21:30

Thanks guys.

sorry to the people who I’ve offended with my lighthearted throwaway comment 🙄😵‍💫

yes, I felt like my equilibrium was battered by everyone else’s stressy nature. I just want to walk round chilled and relaxed.
no such luck tho because they all throw their shit at my feet

Good job Mumsnet's so chilled and relaxed tonight 🤣🤣

MrsCrumPinnett · 06/05/2024 21:41

I’m having a lovely relaxing evening, thanks. I just think normalising that sort of language is unnecessary, and upsetting to people. The image it immediately conjures up is so specific, and so horrific. There are so many fabulous words in the language that could be used instead. Words are powerful.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 06/05/2024 21:45

It’s ok @Marshmallowandcustard I’m a knitter and in my circles stabby is perfectly appropriate for what you describe. I’m sure everyone here totally meant to pile on to an already frustrating night for you.

Have a cocktail and relax for the rest of the evening!

gamerchick · 06/05/2024 21:46

The only image it conjures up for me is my raging PMT. Not everyone is the same.

Marshmallowandcustard · 06/05/2024 21:49

@saltinesandcoffeecups - thank you. It does feel like everyone’s piled on when I’d come on here to say I felt stressed and piled on from home folk. So bit of a double whammy now. Thank you for acknowledging that, means a lot

To you, not to everyone.

But the internet wasn't made for you and nor do the people using it have to dance to your tune.

Easy to scroll on by instead of finger wagging at people using phrases you dislike.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 06/05/2024 23:51

Lots of people have used that phrase on here, so don't flame the OP. It is a dreadful word though, especially in today's context with so much knife crime around.

MrsCrumPinnett · 06/05/2024 23:57

How do people ever see someone else’s POV if they are never challenged? Would you comment if someone used a racist or ableist term? Sometimes it’s good to be made uncomfortable- it can lead to self reflection, which leads to growth.

Or everyone can sit quietly in their bubble and never try to change anything.

The irony.

Did you really just compare someone lightheartedly using the word 'stabby', which has always been used as a humorous phrase, to racism and ableism?

And who are you to 'change' anything about how others choose to post?

The internet is really not for you if you think your dramatic interpretations make you right and others wrong.
