Ironing situation - read if you need a laugh

I recently used what I thought was a new dry cleaning service, however- it turns out to be just an ironing service.

I sent a massive bunch of clothes off with this lady, who then proceeded to iron my dirty stuff and return it to me.

So now I have very neatly ironed dirty shirts on a hanger, as well as neatly folded bedding, that's visibility dirty - as my children drink chocolate milk in bed regularly.

The whole ordeal cost me 50 quid.

That is funny. My son has hung out a load of dirty clothes on more than one occasion 😄 But were you expecting all your clothes and bedding to be dry cleaned? I don't understand that bit.

She was also super rude about the whole thing and demanded payment before delivery - I was going to give her cash on delivery, but she thought I wasn't going to pay her- which I would never do.

So she demanded a bank transfer before she was happy to drop it off to me. She held my dirty clothes at ransom.

Before this, she was happy to be paid in cash on drop off.

Maybe she's been burnt by not paying.
Maybe she thinks that you might be a bit unreliable?

amiahoarder · 06/05/2024 09:15

That's the bit I don't get - why would your children's bedding be dry cleaned ? Or did you think it was a laundry service

Apparently she didn't notice. How ridiculous is that.

You didn't notice!

@welshycake personally, I think common sense should prevail.

She could have sent me a text, saying:

I've added up all your things and Ironing service ONLY will come to XX. Are you happy for me to go ahead ?

That's when I would have realised.

But she didn't know that you'd misunderstood, so why would she have sent you that text?

And as for the payment thing, I suspect that having been sent a pile of dirty clothes, she was suddenly wary that it was a wind up, or you were a bit dodgy or something, hence wanting payment in advance.

guitarheros · 06/05/2024 09:17

@Maireas no that's different, I misunderstood.

I would notice if I was ironing dirty clothes.

I can't believe you think this is on her 😂

It's on you, you donut.

Yes, I have to say that I would, too.
However, for £50 I'd probably do it!

The mistake is on me, the attitude is on her.

She could have handled it better and I would use her again. With washed clothes. Her loss !

No "the customer is always right". You've asked her to iron your clothes who is she to judge your washing skills?

I think a good business person would have called OP to ask if she had sent the correct batch of stuff for ironing as this batch did not appear to have been washed.

PoppingTomorrow · 06/05/2024 09:21

Ouch!

I remember a guy at uni, who went up at 17 and wasn't aware of the existence of separate washing machines and tumble dryers, put a load of dirty laundry including muddy sports kit straight in the tumble dryer, producing hot, still dirty, smelliest clothes.

Momstermunch · 06/05/2024 09:22

But when did her attitude start? You say she suddenly asked for a transfer before she brought the stuff back. Had you contacted her to say you'd realised your mistake and asked for some money back or something? I'm not sure it is her loss really when your attitude is a bit odd too as you seem to think she's responsible for your error.

Theothername · 06/05/2024 09:23

But now all the stains will be heat set. You’ll never get them out. I’d be really annoyed at this. She’s ruined your clothes.

It’s very obvious whether clothes are clean or dirty - and the smell when you add a bit of steam will tell you quick enough.

Oblomov24 · 06/05/2024 09:25

Sorry op, but tis funny.

She released 100 percent it was a mistake. She then decided not to waste the trip, as it's my fault anyway. Therefore decided to just crack on and get her money. Short term thinking on her part.

Her attitude started when she told me everything was ready and as it was so quick, it then clicked in my head that maybe she didn't wash. So I said, wow very quick to wash and iron ! And she was like, no it's not washed. To which I then said oh no, did you not notice it was dirty ?

That was pretty much it. She then started doubting I would pay, which I never said or anything. In fact I even said, I'll pay you. But how could you not notice.

OP posts:
Momstermunch · 06/05/2024 09:34

From her point of view you don't know how many cheeky fuckers she has dealt with in the past who've tried to wriggle out of paying though. You know that's not what you were doing but she doesn't.

I can also see how you might not notice, laundry detergent smells pretty strong, softener even stronger if you use it. If the shirts are chucked in the wash after one wear they may still smell clean.

I dunno, it's just a mistake. I can't quite work out how you mistake an ironing service for a dry cleaning one but you did. So surely you can understand she might genuinely not have noticed the stuff wasn't clean washing?

....But its a 2 way street. Common sense indicates you should have known it was only an ironing service.
