To ask if this is due to not taking antidepressants

I decided to take myself off my anti depressants about ten days ago. Things seemed to be okay now I’m starting to feel spaced out all the time irritatiable and on verge of tears most of the time. Will this pass or this depression returning?

I had a similar experience and after 6 weeks went back on. I was on the cusp of losing my temper the whole time.
Have you phoned your doctor? Hopefully it’s just your body rebalancing. Also, did you taper your dose down?

strugglinguphill · 05/05/2024 19:09

It should pass, but you shouldn't just stop taking them. It should be done gradually under GP advice but I have previously weaned myself off them

To be honest you’re much better off speaking to your GP.

However (and I mean this very gently) are you sure coming off them is the correct thing to do if you’re feeling this way?

Balloonhearts · 05/05/2024 19:23

That'll be the withdrawal. You're supposed to taper them down, not just stop. They alter your brain chemistry for Christ's sake, it's not always safe to just stop cold turkey.

Woodworm2020 · 05/05/2024 19:24

You may be in withdrawal. Honestly, you should probably just ring the doctor to get some advice on this one. I hope you feel better soon!

Hemakesmesmile2 · 05/05/2024 19:24

You need to wean yourself off them slowly, for example if you take two a day, then alternate between taking 1 and 2 for a month then reduce to 1 a month etc. I had to come off cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant and it was horrible.

Createausername1970 · 05/05/2024 19:26

Are you the same person who posted about a week ago to say you had stopped taking them and 4 days later you felt fine, so this was proof you didn't need them.

Pretty much every response to the thread was DO NOT DO THIS.

Are you the same poster who thought stopping their AD for 2 days but felt OK- meant that you didn't have BPD?

Neversaynever7 · 05/05/2024 19:27

Thanks allSo it’s withdrawing so it should just pass naturally? Will speak to gp on Tuesday if I can get through

It depends. What are you taking, how strong and how long have you been on them? Sertraline at 50mg for 6 months, you'll be fine. Older AD for 6 years at max dose, it could potentially kill you.

Neversaynever7 · 05/05/2024 19:43

60mg

60mg of what and how long have you been on them?
