What are they thinking?

JRocks · 02/04/2008 17:15

Sounds inappropriate to me - like it's just something else to titllate rather than the evil filth it is

Slouchy · 02/04/2008 17:16

Ah, gotcha.
True, nasty shortcut for 'folks get their rocks off on this, whether legal/ok or vile illegal involving children'. not really The BBC Thing.

soapbox · 02/04/2008 17:21

I totally agree with you!

Peadophilic images/material would be a far better description!

child porn has become a generic tag. I agree that reportage should be more precise and descriptive.Rape and torure/abuse would be far more accurate.

Monkeytrousers · 02/04/2008 17:25

No I disagree I think.

A lot of porn is nothing more than abusive images of torture and rape of adults and trafficked women. 'Porn' isn't an innocent term by any means, not like erotica for example. I think the connection with criminaity and porn is quite illustrative on a subconscious level.

SugarSkyHigh · 02/04/2008 17:26

"Detectives investigating the disappearance of Shannon Matthews have arrested her stepfather on suspicion of possessing indecent images of children."

I Can't see what is the problem with how that is described? Can't really see your point?

heard the bloke at ceop (child on line protection agency) talking on the radio the otehr day about this, they'd rather it was refered to as "images of child sexual abuse" as porn implies consent was given. He was campaigning the bbc and others to not refer to it as porn, but alas it is about phrases that fit in a headline.....

ScarletA · 02/04/2008 17:34

Agree 100% with your point, cod.

I just had a think about this in the bath.

I think I am confusing my is's and oughts.

I think "images of child sexual abuse" is more appropriate but a bit that porn implies consent when in many cases it ought not to.
