ask cleaner to try keep noise down while baby is sleeping

I’ve used the same cleaner twice via an agency.

I know there will always be noise from cleaning but it’s a bit too much:

  • playing loud music on speaker
  • having loud conversations on the phone (I don’t mind listening to music or talking on the phone, it’s the volume that’s the issue)
  • stamping along the floors
  • slamming doors, the Hoover down, toilet seats

today my baby woke early from her afternoon nap which she never does, so it must have been due to the noise (we live in a one-level flat) and I couldn’t re-settle her back to sleep.

would it be reasonable to gently ask her to be mindful and keep noise down?

if not, I would opt to not use her again instead.

Just go out whilst your cleaner is there.

There's no need to tiptoe round a baby. They'll learn to sleep with noise. Much better that than those people who whisper when their baby's asleep and then wonder why they wake up at the slightest sound.

I'm sorry, I have a cleaner and we all work from home, I have never encountered a cleaner who plays loud music on speaker while working. If she wants music, get earphones. I thought you were going to say vacuum noise or other related noisy activities but music? no. Absolutely not.

And she shouldn't be making calls and talking loudly on the phone in your space either, take them outside.

Can you not book her to come when your baby won’t be asleep? We’ve always had cleaners come at 9am as kids at school and baby not napping etc yet! You are paying for a service - it should help out your life not be an inconvenience

Playing music and talking on the phone is unusual and unprofessional IMO.

This, the rest of them just doing their job.

Yes now my baby has got to the place of having more predictable nap times, I could work around that. I don’t want to go out as it’s a 1.5 hr nap and I use that time.

I had a previous cleaner who listened to music/podcasts but I didn’t mind as he wore headphones.

I try to arrange my cleaner around nap times if possible. My little girl wakes if a mouse farts.
They shouldn't be listening to music or on the phone, though!
