Have had paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4 hours. Have exercised. Hot bath. Hot water bottle. What else can I do?? Even had a banana cos they're meant to help.

You can buy cocodamol over the counter

CharlotteStreetW1 · 03/05/2024 17:58

Orgasm. If you can face it.

BashfulClam · 03/05/2024 18:00

Buscopan, it’s a muscle relaxant. I take 600mg of Ibuprofen at a time (the GP said fine as long as it’s short term) with a 6-8 hour gap.

shiftingsandsoftime · 03/05/2024 18:01

Buscopan really helps (the stuff marketed for IBS, but actually it reduces all abdominal muscle spasms/cramps, including period pain)

Plus get the specific type of ibuprofen, sometimes marketed as for migraines or as fast acting - ibuprofen lysine, it works better for period pain (this is what Feminax period pain relief contains, but at a higher price than the generics).

LightSpeeds · 03/05/2024 18:02

Feminax - we find it works for everything.

Agree!

OTC - Nurofin PLUS (ordinary won't work)

With prescription- Ponston

Sex/Orgasm

Lying on your stomach on a hard floor- tiles or wood.

If you are in this much discomfort regularly, a gynaecologist referral tbh.

Mine are a doddle now compared to how they were before I had a child. I used to be in agony from a few hours before they started until I was on about day 3. Since they came back post pregnancy (over 6 years ago now) I don't know my period has started until I see the blood, and all my period entails now is dealing with the actual blood, not any pain, feeling sick etc.

AmyandPhilipfan · 03/05/2024 18:18

So, having a child was my answer to your problem!

Greenqueen40 · 03/05/2024 18:20

Contraception and an orgasm!

Aquagirl123 · 03/05/2024 18:26

Mefenamic acid prescribed by GP. It helped me for years, it also reduces blood flow a bit as well which is good if period is heavy.

iPreferBooks · 03/05/2024 18:28

Lying down very still on my bed or hard floor with hot water bottle can help me a bit.

Aquagirl123 · 03/05/2024 18:31

Hope this helps you

NotAgainWilson · 03/05/2024 18:34

This is what ended a lifetime of extremely painful periods for me:

Squats, plenty of squats. As long as your legs do not get stiff you won’t have period pain.

Start with 10, do another 10 if and when the pain returns.

Elieza · 03/05/2024 18:40

Acupuncture.

I know that won't help you today but periods aren't supposed to hurt. If they do then somethings not quite balanced in your hormones. That needs sorted and then you'll be fine.

Acupuncture helped me a lot. GPs just want to treat the symptom (pain).

I prefer to get to the root of the problem (hormone imbalance)

Big pharma doesn't like that though. Hence you won't get I acupuncture on the nhs.

It costs about £50 a session privately but it can do so much that other western medicine can't. I use it for everything I can afford!

Hopingtobe4 · 03/05/2024 18:43

A walk,an orgasm, chocolate and all of thr above that you're taken. I do usually try have co-codamol at home too.

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 03/05/2024 18:44

Chocolate, ginger beer and an orgasm.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 03/05/2024 18:46

Not wearing any internal period protection such as moon cups or tampons. It seems to make it worse. Always external for the first day.

turkeyboots · 03/05/2024 18:47

All of the above plus keeping your feet warm.

Vettrianofan · 03/05/2024 18:48

Dihydrocodeine.

Beverlymacker1 · 03/05/2024 18:48

It obviously won't help you right now but I started taking high strength cod liver oil every day and the difference in my period pain is crazy.

Mabelface · 03/05/2024 18:51

A joint

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/05/2024 18:51

Stretching - even gentle lengthening of each leg in turn can help the muscles to release, getting on all fours and rocking side to side and forwards and back, trying to circle your hips. For a longer term method, sitting on an exercise/birthing ball replicates some of this. And very long term - progesterone (ie, no periods).

It's crap, even before you add in period shits, javelin arse and everything else and I deeply resent the fact that moving, the one thing you feel least like doing, is helpful (assuming no additional complications like endometriosis, fibroids or bastarding decidual casts) - but movement, even if it's between waves of pain, is the thing that makes the most difference.

A TENS machine or electric massager battering the fuck out of your lower back come a close second in usefulness - in the absence of either, I get DP to use his knuckles to press hard against all the incredibly tender spots over the area whilst I say lots of rude words until I can move again.

HarryBlaster · 03/05/2024 18:55

Orgasm - preferably 3

Poshcheddar · 03/05/2024 18:56

A TENS machine is the only thing that alleviates mine successfully.
