I just posted in Olio, two opened packs of chocolate that I bough from Iceland. Each pack has about 20 tiny chocolates, about 5cm each. We ate some so there is about 15 chocolates of each type.

I clearly stated on my post that I bought them from Iceland but did not say it costs £1 each pack.

Yes they are vile!

Somebody is travelling 20-30 minutes just to collect them🙀. Yes, they told me they are leaving the house just for that, because I told them I’m going out at 2pm. Also they did not have my address before requesting, so I don’t think they would be in the area anyway.

I thought it would be requested by neighbours from my block or estate as a lot of people around here use Olio.

So, someone is travelling a fair distance to collect something you don't want..

..and your first thought is to mock their commitment, here on Mumsnet?

Fair enough.

Londonrach1 · 03/05/2024 14:43

Maybe they travelling to the area anyway

cultjarteriaky · 03/05/2024 15:03

I’m not mocking
You are attempting to mock me
Well done, that must feel good

Just thinking about things people will do to get a freebie not taking into considertation time x effort x cost

I know myself I’ve travelled in the past - way before Olio- to collect stuff that if I had factored properly, I’d be better off buying new.

I’m sure there are other examples out there

Why do we need them?

If you don’t, why are you wasting your time here?

Fairly nasty thread, op.

People would accept half eaten goods? I did not know that. I had a bottle of sauce that I was trying out, and it was really not to my taste. I did not know what to do with it, so ended up binning it, as I had nobody to give it to. So now I know about Olio, I could use that in future, to pass on foodstuff.

Amx · 03/05/2024 15:20

Tell them what you think of them when they collect them.

cultjarteriaky · 03/05/2024 15:20

the chocolates were wrapped individually

what word in my post implies to you that I think anything negative about them?

You're strange OP.

OriginalUsername2 · 03/05/2024 15:33

I bet they won’t turn up. As well as people who collect weird free things, there are also people who spend their days organising pick-ups they don’t intend to go through with.

they did
and they travelled only 15 minutes so they miscculated the time, so clearly not a neighbour and made feel a lot better too

I don't think it's the post in itself, I think it's the title that makes it sound a little mean spirited.

Leafalotta · 03/05/2024 16:03

There was a period when I gave away quite a bit on Olio. IME Olio collectors are often young, like uni student age. Traveling that far is nothing to them, and I would imagine most don't have much spare for treats, so fair enough, better than it being wasted. And yes @LadyKenya no qualms about opened stuff.

honestly, how?

You want everyone to know you've given something away and someone's coming a distance.
It's your business, we don't need to know.
Just be pleased to get rid of the items. Move on.

Yes I’m bragging that I gave something away that cost me w whole £2.

That is the point of the post👍🏼
