To wonder what jobs the government are expecting people to get?

Following on from the many, many threads about this. I’m genuinely wondering what jobs the government are expecting people who claim disability benefits to do, specifically those suffering with their mental health? From an employers perspective, it would be very difficult to run a successful business with an employee that took a lot of time off work. You’d need a job that had no deadlines and didn’t need a physical presence and I can’t think of many jobs off the top of my head.

@Nat6999 some of those conditions are very much treatable…I think if you can have kids and run a house with those conditions then a part time job would suffice. Unless I’m wrong and you don’t have kids/run a house. I find working easier than being at home to be fair. I also have an underactive thyroid, polycystic ovaries (which can cause pain at times of the month), tachycardia, high blood pressure, adhd. All except the adhd are managed with meds, the adhd I have learned to manage myself. I’m not saying this is the same for you, I’m aware we are all different….

I self inject B12, who would employ me when I don't know from one day to the next how well I can be? You say all my conditions are treatable, I wish they were, I've been under the hospital & various clinics for 14 years & I'm no further forwards. You say looking after kids & running a home prove I can work at least part time, ds has been my carer for the last 8 years, it takes me 2 hours to manage to get up, do my meds, get washed & dressed, I haven't been outside my home for over 2 years. I have to have a cleaner to manage my home, I live on convenience food because I can't stand up long enough to prepare a meal & can't peel or chop ingredients due to having numb hands & fingers, I'm often asleep again within 3 hours of waking up & I'm only out of bed maybe 7 hours a day. My memory is rubbish, I can't retain information so learning anything new is out of the question, I have terrible social anxiety so anything involving people is out, I wet myself a lot. If the DWP agree I'm not fit for work, what makes you think I can work? I worked for 27 years before being finished due to ill health & the amount of time I was off sick, not because I didn't want to work.

@Nat6999

Do you find the b12 helpful?

My dd has endometriosis and is always exhausted. I wonder if it may help. Thank you

I'm worried for my DD16. She has ADHD and ASD as well as other stuff going on such as emotional disregulation.

I don't know what job she would be able to do. Hopefully there is something. It would very likely need to be part time. She would need a supportive and flexible employer though and they are a rarity.

If there were more flexible jobs available then that would help people with disabilities and also working parents. Unfortunately we still have a full time, long hours culture and I don't really see that changing regardless of Government initiatives.
