Getting a job whilst pregnant

ByLivelyRedCat · 30/04/2024 22:24

I'm currently 5 months pregnant and have a job interview coming up. Its for a role I'm really interested in. Should I tell them I'm pregnant during the interview or after I get offered the job? I'm already in employed but I'm on 0 hour contract, however I'm looking for something more stable. I applied one day ago and got a call today and they said they were really happy with my cv and experience.
If I do get the job when would be the best time to let them know?

I'd say pretty much straight away, they need to make a decision whether to employ someone that's going to go through all the training processes to then have them go on maternity leave or choose someone that's going to be with them a little bit longer in the beginning.

Don't tell them at interview. It shouldn't be relevant and it may stop them offering you the job. Get an offer in writing, then tell them. In fact, if you can, get the offer, work a month, then tell them. I started a job for the NHS pregnant. I was pregnant at interview, although I didn't know it. I told them at 12 weeks, around 9 weeks after starting work. It was fine, but easy because they're a huge employer.

Legally you don't need to say anything until after they offer. Realistically you'll make no friends taking the job and working a couple of months before maternity leave. They have to start recruiting again pretty much straight away....

That wouldn't work. She's already 5 months pregnant. Add on time for interviewing, them deciding, getting everything sorted to actually start and I imagine she'll be very obviously pregnant.

Pregnant women need more protection in cases like this! It would be so frowned upon to do this, but why should it be. A man who had a baby due isn't looked on in any different way, even though he can take paternity leave.
