Has anyone ever seen a medium? AIBU to now believe that some people have psychic ability?

I recently saw a psychic medium and I sound say about 80% of what she said was accurate. Some things were actually startling. She knew nothing about me before I went in, except for my first name. I can’t believe some if the things she could see inc. names and details about relatives on the ‘other side’ (even though these are from a different culture / language). Other very accurate details too. I couldn’t believe it.

Had anyone else had a similar encounter? I was open minded before I went but am now convinced that some people have psychic ability, based on my own direct experience. AIBU?

I never believed in any of this stuff, I was convinced that it was all made up nonsense.

But then…. I visited a psychic who said I would meet a tall dark handsome man, get married and have babies (a boy and a girl) and would travel overseas. She ended the session saying I might also be a bit psychic.

I was young but believed her and thought I’d try to use my psychic abilities to contact my grandparents who died.
My grandmothers name was Mary and I tried but she didn’t come through, my grandmother was called Henry.

After my failed attempts at whispering “Mary? Mary are you there?”
I called “Henry? Henry…”

Well I REALLY wish I hadn’t. Suddenly I heard a man singing “I’m Henry the 8th I am, Henry the 8th I am, I am.
I got married to the widow next door, she’s been married 7 times before”

This went on all night and it taught me a lesson not to dabble in the unknown.
If anyone reading feels tempted to explore their psychic side then please heed this as a warning 😏😂.

Lol that's a scene from the film Ghost 😂

Do you understand what you're posting?

We have many experiments that investigate the true nature of the physical world, ALL scientific experiments do as it's the only world we know of! Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy, it's not something science would deal with. What about the electron is unsatisfactorily explained to you? I really don't understand you point.

I’m a sceptic, but I think it’s naive to think it’s completely impossible that spirits or an afterlife exist . My hunch is that they don’t but we only know what we know at this point in humanity . Years ago people were convinced the world was flat etc.

It’s not so much that I think it’s totally impossible for spirits and an afterlife to exist and more that I don’t believe anyone with the powers to be able to channel them would be charging punters £25 a ticket at some provincial rugby club hall seance, and advertising in the back of Take a Break.

Thats just show business 😉 you pay for an evening out ! Although it’s really sad for those poor people who have real hopes of speaking to a lost love one.

I do think it's all bunkum and fake but my friend told me about her encounter with a medium and I loved it.

Her mum was a very strict Christian woman and felt any kind of psychic/witchy/woo stuff was the work of the devil. A few years after her mum died, my friend was invited at the last minute to see a medium. This guy was impossible to get an appointment with but a group of her colleagues had booked months in advance and one could no longer go. They decided she was to go in first. The medium took one look at her and said she had to leave. Her mum is there screaming at him and causing a ruckus and telling him that "she knows she isn't allowed to do this". He wouldn't sit with her and gave her a refund 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

“Trusted Psychics” 😂😂😂 Trusted by whom?

If you click that link it takes you to pay per minute phone lines and credit card options.
Trashy and scammy.

I presume you work for them @Adrichmen because I can’t think of another reason anyone would post that link.

LazyArsedMagician · 11/04/2025 13:51

I don't believe in psychics.

Like I can solve those puzzles where you only have a few letters, I believe so-called "psychics" can cold read and make close guesses that your mind fills in.

Also - I believe it's got a lot easier with social media. You'd be surprised how much you can find out from accounts that are private.

I went in and she explained how she works. She told me to give her no info at all about why I was there. She also told me to record the session as some things might not make sense there and then but would in the near or far future.

I can’t tell you what the situation was from my childhood but a relative ‘came in’ and talked about it specifically. It is not common - at all! The relative also gave her name which nobody could guess in a million years. How could they?

She knew a lot about my children - it was astonishing. Very specific - eg. ages, interests. She brought them in. I didn’t mention anything about even having kids.

Why can’t you talk about the incident from your childhood?

GraySILK · 11/04/2025 15:05

Anyone that believes someone can contact the dead is batshit crazy.

A- There is no afterlife -
(for those that reply with ‘but you can’t prove there is no afterlife, that’s just your opinion bla bla bla” crack, I can’t prove there aren’t giant toads living above the clouds that make it rain when they piss either, but my critical analytical skills tell me thats highly unlikely, given the scientific knowledge we now have)

B- On the the tiny off chance I was wrong and there is an afterlife, why would loved ones chose to speak to strangers, knowing their family are in turmoil wondering if they suffered etc… Why not go straight to the family member and let them know!

C- Again, if it were all true, how can the spirit world also see the future? It’s one thing to be able to ‘contact’ the spirit world and the spirit give info on past events - but being able to also see the future? Wow that’s some accolade that….

D- People love attention.

E- People love money and there are charlatans in every aspect of service and those that will rip you off and prey on your vulnerability. This is no different.

F- For those that still proclaim that it’s genuine, they are deluded.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 11/04/2025 15:08

Please watch Derren Brown cold reading and guessing bizarre facts from people who have not uttered a word to him.

It's all bullshit.

Thischarmlessgirl · 11/04/2025 15:22

I’m a sceptic, however for my 40th birthday a friend bought me a voucher for the psychic sisters based in Selfridges (it was a bit tongue in cheek as she knows I’m cynical and she is quite a spiritual person whom I often roll my eyes at when she’s being “woo, woo” ) I saw the psychic there (Kim Kardashian’s psychic apparently) I only gave my first name when I booked, some of the stuff she told me was interesting and surprisingly accurate about my past and she apparently made a connection with my Grandmother who asked about a childhood toy of mine, I felt a bit shaken afterwards to be honest. Weird experience. I wasn’t seeking anything particular, and only really went because it was a gift, but I can see how those who are vulnerable might be exploited or get drawn into visiting regularly.

MarxistMags · 11/04/2025 17:09

I went to see someone who lives in a different town to me, about 80 miles away. She wouldn't take any money from me as I was 'recently' (2 years) bereaved.
I enjoyed the experience, and it gave me comfort. Even if that is all you get out of it, then no harm is done in my opinion.

Littledidsheknow · 11/04/2025 17:40

If one’s deceased grandmother really could make contact - albeit after cash is handed over to an intermediary - then why would they be blathering on about childhood incidents?

Why not congrats on your baby/graduation/promotion?
Why not how are you/ I miss you?
Why not you’re really not your father’s child?

“You fell off your Chopper bike at age 10 and have a cousin whose name begins with J” is really not the most meaningful or interesting of interactions.

How useful. Everyone else had booked months in advance, giving him ample time to research them, and the one last-minute replacement about whom he knows nothing he wriggles out of reading because her dead mother came through and told him not to? Handy.😀

Wouldn’t an ultra-Christian spirit who thought ‘psychic’ readings were morally abhorrent not contact a psychic in the first place? It would be like dealing drugs to your child to teach them not to.

One evening after a few drinks me and a small group of my friends decided to book a medium reading session just for a laugh, we were all very sceptical but thought why not, I'll be a good fun. Medium knew nothing about us and told us not to say anything, didn't even know our names. We were asked to tell our first names only at the start of the session. After the session we were all a bit freaked out. The details, names, events, places, jobs, illnesses and people both dead and alive were described so accurately that we didn't know what to make of it. Maybe not all of them are frauds? I don't know.

LoudSnoringDog · 11/04/2025 18:37

I saw a one years ago. There’s absolutely no way he could have known what he said to me. It would have been impossible

Honestly, I just went with an open mind, not knowing what to expect.

If you went in with an open mind, you went in with a deluded mind.

If only it was real and useful. "Next week you will forget eggs in your weekly shop, buy double now and you will be able to bake all your heart desires"

bumblebee1000 · 11/04/2025 18:41

I saw one years ago as someone dropped out of a group...she didnt ask any questions and gave me dates of job changes and house moves and even the door numbers etc, none of these were planned and all happened a few months later as she described. details about my dad were wrong, but other info was all correct.

Littledidsheknow · 11/04/2025 18:43

I once saw a man make a whole deck of cards disappear, saw a woman in half, then he vanished and reappeared somewhere completely different on stage!!

Magic is real!

Jane926 · 24/04/2025 13:25

I have been to a few which have been correct myself and my sister used one on tiktok named angelichealinguk and she sent us both the exact same reading and when we mentioned it to her she blocked us 🤣
