Would it be terrible of me to interview for other roles?

This is my fourth week at my new workplace. I don't love it, there's just something that doesn't feel right. (I can elaborate if you'd like to know).

Coincidentally, with my new title I've had at least 4 recruiters reaching out. Would it be terrible of me to interview? I just feel like a terrible person.

Nope, of course not, not terrible at all.

They wouldn’t hesitate to get rid of you if they felt it wasn’t the right fit. Interview- you don’t have to take anything that is offered

Hélène79 · 29/04/2024 14:23

Sensible, not terrible.

IvorTheEngineDriver · 29/04/2024 14:28

No. Of course not.

Thank you all. Trying to look busy and reinventing the wheel is taking a toll on me!

It would be useful to speak with your manager to explain that you are struggling to settle. Presumably there were things you thought you would like about the role, so it's worth seeing if you can find them now. If you really can't settle in though, then certainly move on quickly.

I think I can't figure out where I belong in the org. What I do is VERY different to what my colleagues are doing (although it should/would have an impact on their workload one day) but my manager keeps dividing our tasks by product line and my product line is completely on hold until further notice.
I can do things in the background, but I'm struggling to integrate with my team.

Plus I'm just keeping myself busy in the meantime.

Go for it.

I've left one job after 3 weeks before, and another after 5 months. Hasn't harmed my career whatsoever. The 3 week one I've now just left off my CV/LinkedIn completely.

Definitely think about your reasons for disliking the new place though so you don't make the same mistake again (like I did)!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 29/04/2024 19:58

Probably better for them if you leave after 8 weeks than 8 months

The probationary period works both ways- people sometimes forget that.

As long as you stayed longer in previous roles this shouldn't worry a new employer. Be ready to say in interview you are looking to leave new job because it wasn't as expected in some way, and have your answer for this really tight.
