Should I go to the interview?

NC as slightly outing I think.

I have a job interview coming up and it's for a collections advisor in a finance company.

I've worked there previously a few years ago in a different role and absolutely loved it but had to leave due to personal circumstances.

The problem now is my credit file is absolutely shot at, it has defaults but no CCJs or bankruptcy.

The reason for this is before he died my dad financially abused me and got out a lot of loans and credit cards in my name and whilst I was still working I could pay them off but when he died, my mum needed caring for, I had a baby (4 weeks after he died actually) with multiple additional needs, I was struggling with my own mental health (undiagnosed cptsd and cyclothymia) and everything financially just got out of hand.

I'm on a better place now, my last default it says on the credit file was over 3 months ago I have payment plans in plan with the companies and stepchange and things are better.

I emailed the companys HR and told them this (I didn't go into the personal reasons yet though) as I didn't want to waste their time and they said they still want to meet with me and if successful they will do a credit check and try and understand my personal circumstances but I'm really worried.

I guess I don't want to be successful and then they have to turn me down due to my credit file so would it be better and more polite to cancel the interview?

Hi, I would go for the interview. If they said they still want to meet with you that’s a good sign. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Also you have worked there previously. That will count for something. I wish you all the best. Be strong.

Yeah I'd still go too. Don't take yourself out of the running.

Go to the interview, give it your best shot & let the company decide whether the credit file is an issue for them.

the reasons for a credit check can include whether you would be at risk of bribery etc.. it is by no means a black & white decision.

Do the interview. Never turn down a genuine opportunity. You’ll regret it otherwise. They are willing to hear your circumstances and, from what you describe, they are compelling. You are also now handling your debt and being honest about it. You mustn’t let your insecurity or shame get in the way (sorry, your post comes across that way but perhaps I misinterpreted it). You are good enough for the job and so for go for it. If they say no, at least you tried and will have no regrets.
