Toddler sickness

Hi just after some general advice please.

My 2 year old has been sick everyday for around 8 days now.
But it’s not a violent illness and some days are better than others.
She wakes up and is fine not 100% herself but about 80% there. Mood is normal - she’s not irritable but a little less energetic than normal and a bit quiet. Her appetite is normal and drinks plenty.

However after every nap she wakes and has zero energy, is extremely quiet, cuddly and clingy and will be sick at least once sometimes a few times. Asks for food but can’t bring herself to eat it. And will remain like this until bedtime and the next day has been the same.

She’s pooing less frequently (understandabley) but there’s not really much change In her poos - like she doesn’t have diarrhoea and isn’t constipated.

Her tummy looks and feels normal, she’s irritable when I press it but isn’t distressed by it.

Is this normal? Typical of a toddler illness? My other kids haven’t had anything like this, just the usual bouts of violent illness over a couple of days and then it’s gone.

It’s just concerning me how long it’s lasted. And every day we think she’s better until after her nap. The only correlation we’ve found is with her naps but this could just be a red herring due to time of day.

I called the doctors this morning and they didn’t sound overly concerned but had no appointments and said if she’s the same by Monday call first thing to get her seen.

But by then we’ll be nearing 14 days of vomiting. But similarly, this doesn’t seem a&e worthy over the weekend?

Any advice or experience with an illness like this would be hugely appreciated.

my AIBU is:

YANBU - this is just how kids viruses go, wait it out until Monday and see if she improves.

YABU - this sounds serious get that child to a doctor asap

As a toddler my daughter had a bug that lasted seventeen days. She would get well for a day or two then be sick for a day or two. And repeat. For seventeen days. She ended up in hospital for a night and I was told the children’s ward was full of kids that had the same type of presentation.

I’d say just monitor closely, make sure she’s hydrated and keep an eye on her temperature.

I don't think it's A&E worthy (she'll probably catch something worse!) but I would prob try and get a GP appt or call 111 and tell them and see what they say, you might get an out of hours one. It's dragging on a bit. Maybe it's a weird food allergy thing or something but she sounds a bit miserable with it, bless her.

My 4yo has just had a bug that lasted over a week, she'd be fine for a day then sick again. I wouldn't go to a&e if she didn't get any worse over the weekend but I'd insist on a gp appointment on Monday.
The only thing that really helped DD was completely cutting out dairy for a few days (apparently vomiting bugs can cause some children to be temporarily dairy intolerant for a short while after) and keeping her diet as plain as possible.

Thought I’d update incase anyone comes across this thread in a panic. I took her straight to the children’s hospital after writing this and thankfully I did, she was kept in for a couple of nights and diagnosed with a pretty severe UTI. Apparently they can present differently which includes some pretty intense vomiting.
