It seems to be getting better now! Thank you so much everyone you’re amazing. It is still stinging so maybe that’s normal but I rinsed with lots of cold water

OK so long as its not in your eye and it's just a but just a bit red and youve removed the corrosive material you treat it like any other 1st degree burn. Which is run water over it ( which youve done), keep it clean and let it heal naturally.

LoopyLolaGranola · 26/04/2024 13:55

I can’t read the photo but the safety sheet says to remove and contaminated clothing, thoroughly flush with water to remove the bleach, and wash with soap and water. Seek medical advice if irritation or redness persists or if there is any blistering.

I’m surprised it is so bad 😟I’ve spilled similar and never had such a reaction. I would at least go to a pharmacy if it is still irritated.

Struggle1 · 26/04/2024 14:04

@LoopyLolaGranola thank you! I think the reaction was as I was rubbing it. I phoned pharmacy as I don’t live near one and he said to take anti-histamine and it will be okay.

I am very anxious generally so I’m relieved hearing that. I’m not sure about anti-histamine but I’ve taken a spoonful!

As It’s just bleach it just needs a rinse. You’ve annoyed it by rubbing.

WarshipRocinante · 26/04/2024 14:07

It’s just household bleach? Half the time I use that to clean stuff, I don’t bother with gloves. Calm down. You splashed a bit on your face and washed it off. That’s it. All the redness was probably you rubbing at it and panicking over nothing.

You’ll be fine.

TiredMum30 · 26/04/2024 14:09

As a cleaner I do this on a daily basis while at work. It should be okay, I've never had a reaction yet. Also just for your info I don't recommend using bleach to clean off mould, you'll need a mould spray or white vinegar.

Struggle1 · 26/04/2024 14:12

Thank you so much everyone

White vinegar is much better for removing mould than bleach .

LoopyLolaGranola · 26/04/2024 14:44

How is it feeling now? Was the cold water very cold? Mains water is still pretty chilly here… 20 mins of running water at that temperature would probably make your skin red from the cold and cold can feel like “burning”…

Struggle1 · 26/04/2024 14:50

@LoopyLolaGranola Yes it was cold. It’s stinging a little bit that could be in my head as I’m overly anxious. DH just said that side of my face look’s swollen.

OP posts:
LoopyLolaGranola · 26/04/2024 15:15

How big is the “burn”? Household bleach that was rinsed off immediately really shouldn’t cause any serious damage but if it is still red and painful, maybe you should seek further advice from 111.

Cheesewiz · 26/04/2024 15:17

You will be fine, I'm a cleaner and recently got it in my eye, rinsed it and I'm fine!

MorningSunshineSparkles · 26/04/2024 15:17
Hmm
MorningSunshineSparkles · 26/04/2024 15:18

Hung up on the medical professionals and decided to take advice from the internet instead? Do you frequently panic over entirely non eventful occurrences?

mrsm43s · 26/04/2024 15:29

I've splashed that bleach on myself many, many times and never had a reaction. Just rinsed with water and carried on. So I would suspect that you have some kind of allergy to something that is in it, as opposed to a chemical burn from the bleach. So anti histamine is almost certainly what you need.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/04/2024 15:36

You’ll be fine, I practically bathed in the stuff deep cleaning when I moved back into an old flat that I rented out for a few years!

Ubugly · 26/04/2024 16:16

I've washed my hands with bleach quite a few times. No ill effects but sometimes hands feel a bit dry so maybe moisturise later.

Gettingonmygoat · 26/04/2024 18:22

You rang 111 ? Why didn't you just wash it off ? There really is no need to panic.

GoldenTrout · 26/04/2024 18:26

kitsuneghost · 26/04/2024 13:21

No wonder 111 are struggling when these are the type of calls they have to deal with while someone actually ill is trying to get through.

FFS. This is exactly what 111 is for.

I know some people on MN have really strange ideas about not using A&E, but when it extends to not using 111 it's really going over the edge.

If you splashed bleach on your hand would you wash it off or call 111. Most people would wash it off without drama. Sometimes you need to be a adult.

MarioIa · 26/04/2024 18:56

I'd not be the slightest bit worried but if you are then just have a shower.

I use 40% hydrochloric acid at work to remove concrete splashes from equipment and regularly have it drip on my face when using a brush overhead. I've actually got a proper face shield but can't be arsed to wear it as it steams up. I just wear goggles and have water nearby to rinse it off.

My skin is still absolutely fine.
