What’s up with my blister? Pic included

I’ve had it for a week, I keep irritating it through wearing my converse, so I switched to other shoes and put a plaster on. It’s still been sore but not as bad. Tonight I knocked it and it’s really sore again.
I’ve left off the plaster to let the air get to it but it’s really sore still 😔 I thought it would have healed by now, it’s been a week. I know I delayed it through inappropriate footwear.

Do I need to call the GP tomorrow? Is it looking infected?

My blisters sometimes heal like that. Don't call the GP, ask a local pharmacy and apply anti bacterial cream to aid healing in the meantime. Try to avoid tight or uncomfortable shoes and rest if possible.

Ponderingwindow · 26/04/2024 01:53

When you are wearing shoes, you need the kind of bandage that has a foam circle that goes around the wound and then holds a protective cover away from the blister. Not sure what they call them in the uk. If you can’t get that, at least some moleskin. A regular plaster isn’t going to be enough.

bradpittsbathwater · 26/04/2024 02:01

It's not infected. Just needs to heal. Definitely not worth a gp visit. Pharmacy or just give it time. Looks very sore! Maybe taking some ibuprofen could help a bit. It's anti inflammatory and could take the edge off.

JanglingJack · 26/04/2024 02:04

Compede blister patches. Thank me later!

MalibuBarbieDreamHouse · 26/04/2024 02:04

Whack a compeed blister plaster on, they stay sticky until it’s healed, they are brilliant. DH runs and his feet end up raw and they work everytime.

JanglingJack · 26/04/2024 02:07

Oops - Compeed as above! You can get them in supermarkets.

Meadowfinch · 26/04/2024 03:03

It doesn't look infected. It's just a blister that you've rubbed the top off.

Cover with a compeed blister patch and let it heal.

Orangestars · 27/04/2024 07:55

This is what it looks like this morning. The pen mark is where I’ve drawn around the redness in case it starts spreading.
Does it look like I need to see a pharmacist/out of hours GP today? It’s still really sore. I put germolene on it, not sure if that was a good idea or not.

Put a blister plaster on it. Stop putting cream on it

bradpittsbathwater · 27/04/2024 08:02

It's not infected. You need to leave it alone.

KreedKafer · 27/04/2024 08:28

It’s an ordinary blister. Stop putting cream on it, stop fiddling with it, whack a Compeed blister plaster over it and leave it alone.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 27/04/2024 08:29

Doesn't look infected, you just keep rubbing the top off. Personally I'd wear open backed shoes/sandals for a while.

fieldsofbutterflies · 27/04/2024 08:39

Stop putting cream on it and poking at it.

Clean it with soap and water and put a Compeed plaster on. Then leave it alone!

Compede blister patches. Thank me later!

Compeed are miraculous products for prevention and treatment. I have several in my bag for emergencies!

StripeyDeckchair · 27/04/2024 08:42

Clean it with warm water
Let it dry
Put on a compeed plaster
Leave

Talk of going to a GP for a blister is ridiculous & exactly why genuinely ill people can't get appointments
If you are a particularly anxious person then check in with a pharmacist but it is just a normal blister.

Orangestars · 27/04/2024 11:12

I guess I’m worried about infection as it can happen if left untreated. It just doesn’t seem to be healing and it’s very sore/red around the edge.

OP posts:
fieldsofbutterflies · 27/04/2024 11:13

It's not healing because you're not letting it heal and keep putting creams on it.

Wash it, let it dry properly, put a Compeed plaster on it and leave it alone.

Sameratdifferenthat · 27/04/2024 11:21

It's a normal, ordinary blister. That's what they look like when they're healing. You don't need to see a doctor for this.

AnnaMagnani · 27/04/2024 11:32

Stop putting cream on it. There is no benefit to putting germolene/savlon on stuff and it pisses your body off.

Cover it with a Compeed blister plaster so you can wear shoes and leave that plaster on until it falls off by itself.

It's red around the edge as your body is trying to heal it so the blood vessels are dilated bringing all the chemicals to heal it. Unfortunately you keep getting in the way by clogging it with Germolene or rubbing it further.

Gassylady · 27/04/2024 11:36

Another one saying Compeed great for this sort of thing. Son had very similar when breaking in new walking boots once, all healed so well once left to do so under the lovely padded compeed.

CornishPorsche · 27/04/2024 11:46

Soak it in salted water for a while, at leasr twenty minutes. Air dry it, don't dab it with anything that can leave bits on it, then either leave it with nothing on it or buy Compere blister plasters and put that on.

Don't wear any shoes that can rub it for a week or so, you need to leave it to heal.

No GP! This is prime self care territory.

Orangestars · 27/04/2024 11:53

Thanks, the problem is I don’t have any shoes without backs. Even my sandals have straps.

DrJoanAllenby · 27/04/2024 11:55

Get as much air to it as possible and when you have to wear footwear cover it with a blister plaster.

You certainly don't need to be bothering a pharmacist about it.

CornishPorsche · 27/04/2024 11:55

Have you nothing with a lower back on it? Shoes are all different sizes on that - have a check and find the least aggravating ones. Spend the week in socks, slippers or bare feet as much as you can.

Got any Crocs? They are ideal for this sort of thing. I know everyone loves to hate them, but they are comfy AF!

Just put a blister plaster over it when you need to wear shoes. That's what they're for!
