To ask about rash possibly caused by detergent?

I was hand-washing some clothes yesterday and didn’t have any bottles of detergent, so cut open one of those detergent gel capsules and used that.

Whilst washing the clothes, I didn’t think much had gone on my hands - and normally it’s not at all an issue if detergent from the bottle goes on my hands. However, today, the backs of my hands feel really tight and there’s a painful burning sensation, and they seem quite red.

At work today, all I could think of was the idea of plunging my hands into some cold milk to stop the burning and to soothe them!! Random idea, I know, but it’s worked well before when my hands were stinging after chopping up chillies whilst cooking.

I’ve now soaked my hands in some milk and they feel a bit better, and have also put on some hand cream, which will also hopefully help. I’m just so confused because I’ve never had this happen before. Just wondered if this has ever happened to anyone else? I won’t be splitting open detergent capsules again any time soon - that’s for sure.

OUCH 🤕. That's a very concentrated product. Just hope it doesn't get any worse. Hand cream is a good idea but I'd avoid scented.

Oh dear! Is it a problem that my hands have come into contact with it?

Feeling very stupid that I used it without knowing it was so strong. I had no idea that capsules are more concentrated than liquid detergent, although I can understand now that they are.

Don't feel stupid, but you've learnt. It's the reason it's so important to keep these up high and away from children. They can be lethal if ingested. Strong stuff.

I wouldn't use them at all, they are quite toxic. There's a reason why most of them say "Keep away from children and pets" .
Your body is going to keep reacting to even small amounts now. There's plenty of gentle natural washing liquid about.
Also you may find cream soothing when it goes on but it can quickly heat up the skin
Stick to sudocrem for cream or witch hazel is extremely soothing.
