Ours is about to be 24% normally, up to 38% when I’m on the cheaper paid part of maternity leave. We can cover all the essential bills in those expensive months but not much else!

What is yours as a percentage?

20%

Crushed23 · 23/04/2024 12:10

21%.

LadyDanburysHat · 23/04/2024 12:10

We are luck, ours is only 17% but we overpay so it's around 24%, which is where it might end up after our fixed rate ends. We have been in the position of it being 35% or more though, and that felt really tight.

About 10% but will no doubt go up a bit next year when our current mortgage rate runs out. We have been lucky with a recent jump in income and are getting loads of house jobs done while we can!

Stickthatupyourdojo · 23/04/2024 12:14

22% but will likely shoot up next year when our current rate expires. Also paying a tonne on childcare but keeping everything crossed the funded hours kicking in will soften the mortgage increase blow.

idontlikealdi · 23/04/2024 12:14

FlyingAfterDark · 23/04/2024 12:14

29%

pelotonaddiction · 23/04/2024 12:14

22% but then with flat management fees it's 34% of min wage

Iggleoggledaffy · 23/04/2024 12:14

23%

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 23/04/2024 12:14

25% was 17% until the rate change just before Christmas. That sucked!

LiarLiarKnickersAblaze · 23/04/2024 12:15

22% currently but overpay. Will be moving to 29% in new house. But that doesn’t include the money I put into savings that come out of my pay slip before tax through work scheme.

Bloody hell! 😮 Sorry to here that.

Is it insensitive to ask how you're managing? Or do you have enough put away to ride it out without blinking?

LiterallyOnFire · 23/04/2024 12:16

Hear not here. 🤦🏼‍♀️

CherryBlossom321 · 23/04/2024 12:17

22%. We were lucky to get a fixed rate just before the COL crisis kicked in. Three and a half years left, feeling very grateful.

LisaD1 · 23/04/2024 12:17

22%

BlackberryCake · 23/04/2024 12:17

Currently 19% of household income, about to go up to 26% with the rate changes

ThreeTescoBags · 23/04/2024 12:17

36% of our take home pay. It was 23% before September - thanks, Liz 👍

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 23/04/2024 12:18

Was 16%
Then interest rates made it 22%
Now I'm on SMP so it's 33%
Can't afford to be off for the full year as if I wasn't getting SMP would be 42%. Childcare bill is going to be more than our mortgage though, equivalent of 60% of one of our wages! Mortgage and childcare alone will be about 50% of our take home pay.

FlyingSoap · 23/04/2024 12:18

Gosh, ok, seems in the 20%s is quite normal then!!

I would think staying out if the 30s is good going now for many.

This sounds very similar to how our figures will be. Do you mind me asking how long you’re taking off, is it 9 months? I wanted the year but like you ours would then be around 40-45% which I just don’t think is practical for the sake of an extra couple months

Was 24%, now 30% also. Quite a painful jump, with increased childcare also etc
