To leave a work team I love for more money? WWYD?

Hiya!

I wondered if anyone could shed additional perspectives on my dilemma.
I currently work for LG in a core role which every LG has. I earn £32000 per year for this role.
I have been offered a job in another LG, for £15000 more for exactly the same role (it actually seems that due to the way they split the work, it would actually be easier).
In terms of actual wage, I would make the same amount of money on a 3 day contract there, as I did when I was full time in my current role.
It sounds like an amazing opportunity, massively more money and more experience in an area I am passionate about.
BUT. It’s 50 miles away, and I would need to get a train due to fear of driving on a motorway. Although they have said I could have it written into my contact that I only attend once per month (I currently attend 1 day per week in my role).
My current team, including ALL managers are just lovely. Genuinely, they are by FAR the nicest set of people I have ever worked with - I am worried I won’t find this elsewhere. Realistically I just won’t.
Finally, recently I changed my working hours and my job moved around alot to accommodate me. I feel a bit of guilt leaving after they were so good, but this feels like an amazing opportunity.
What would you do? Am I crazy to leave? Or crazy to stay?

Have you asked if your current job will match the salary of the other one? You might find that they don't want to lose you. Explain how much you love it there but you've been made a fantastic offer.

KittyCollar · 22/04/2024 18:40

No. My son did this and got his fingers burned. You can’t put a price on working with nice people. Luckily he’s in a new job now and loves it

jackstini · 22/04/2024 18:44

I would take it
Can you go 4 days so you do fewer hours and get more money?

Your team, lovely as it is, is unlikely to stay the same forever. I imagine if some of them had your chance - they would jump at it without a second thought

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 22/04/2024 18:47

I don't love any of my colleagues enough to turn down a near 50% payrise.

Your team didn't permanent, no team ever is. You could stay only to find others leave shortly.

Branleuse · 22/04/2024 18:49

Id stay somewhere local with a team I loved, rather than a job 50 miles away, even if it is a pay rise.

Testina · 22/04/2024 18:54

Remember that you are part of what makes your team lovely, and you’re taking you with you 😀

Amx · 22/04/2024 19:06

Take the job. If you don't and one or two of the team leave and a monster comes in you'll be full of remorse.

EBearhug · 22/04/2024 19:09

You can stay in touch with the good people. You won't often get such a good payrise.

Toomuchgoingon79 · 22/04/2024 19:16

Take the job!

PlumPeony · 22/04/2024 19:22

Take the job! unless you've done research and it's got horrible reviews, but that would make a big difference, so even if it's not as nice, you can probably suck it up.

GreatGateauxsby · 22/04/2024 19:25

I had this and took the job.
It was about the same £20k bump on 50k. I have noooo regrets

That level of £££ will really impact your day to day.
Take the job, join the old team for drinks and friday lunches!

alexisccd · 22/04/2024 19:28

def take the job, it's a significant monthly pay increase - save it if you don't need it / pay down mortgage - plus you will have better pension on retirement

Loopytiles · 22/04/2024 19:29

That’s a massive pay difference.

the motorway thing is resolveable.

factors could change making your current job worse.

LoobyDop · 22/04/2024 19:33

If they’ll put the one day a week into your contract, take it. Leave your current place in a positive way so you can go back, with more experience and for more money, later.

ArchaeoSpy · 22/04/2024 19:35

Currently id stay with the team i have, better the ones you know

WhereAreWeNow · 22/04/2024 19:37

Difficult. I feel the same way about my team and boss. But it's a lot more money and you say it's an interesting role...

Imagine how you'd feel if you stayed because you love your team and then over the next year half of your favourite team members move on and are replaced by people you can't stand. Or there's a restructure and you get split up. You'd kicking yourself.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/04/2024 19:38

Great teams can dissolve in the blink of an eye, and these people aren't nice enough to pay your bills. I'd be taking the job.

SuperLois34 · 22/04/2024 19:40

You'd be crazy to stay.

People move jobs. In 5 years time all of the current people you work with might have moved on. You'd still be there and by then you'd be £75k (gross) worse off than if you'd moved...and this opportunity long gone.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/04/2024 19:45

50% pay rise! And get to work for home 99% of the time

Er... Yeah !!! Of course you go for it

blueshoes · 22/04/2024 19:54

Well one of your team members may take the job if you don't. How do you know they did not apply for it and are on the reserve list?

Fortune favours the bold.

Investinmyself · 22/04/2024 19:59

I’d go for it. Get the once a month in writing. Maybe look into spending some extra on motorway lessons. Keep in touch with old colleagues for coffee etc. I’m LG and find most people are lovely it definitely attracts a type so good chance new bunch nice too.

patchworkpal · 22/04/2024 20:00

I think you should be going in more than once a month for your own sake

Unknownuser2046789 · 22/04/2024 20:24

Thank you all so much for your input. I read every single one and they really helped make the decision. I will be taking the job. Thank you all for giving me the courage 🥰

Ifonlyiweretaller · 22/04/2024 21:16

Maybe the team you currently work with is so good because of how you interact with them all. You would therefore be able to create similar in your new role. I'd go for it Smile

StripeyDeckchair · 22/04/2024 21:25

Leave & get the massive pay increase.

The team will change over time, people will leave, move internally & their lives will change changing them. The management structure could change & you could end up with a crap manager, your team being disbanded etc etc

Remember your job is only as secure as your last pay cheque - always do the best for you.

I worked in a great place with people I got on well with, we socialised outside work & got on well. I left & before the end of the year was writing references for the whole department as their jobs were being moved 150 miles to the head office.
