were i live there is a big prob with parking, not many drives 1940's semi's with road out front of house(not busy road)..we have ONE car, our next door neighbour wont let us take a small part of adjoining fence down so at least one of us can get the car on the drive then there is one more space out front.

last night i had to go on a course till 9pm..get hom, neighbour is parked in front of our house, next door but one house on his side has about 5-6! 'men' living in it,they have 5-6 cars/vans/mini buses between them!..their comings and goings are questionable anyway, and its a 3 bed semi, so where are they all living(they apprantly have wifes and children there too??)..anyway, besided the point..this week, they have all turned up again with most of the cars so there are now 4 cars parked along the road and one mini bus parked smack bang in front of my house, coulsnt get anywere near our house alst night and theres beena spate of mindless window car smashing so was very pissed of last night to park miles away, one cos of stupid ignorant, un co-operative neighbour, two cos of these dogy indiviuals coming and going with there mostor truck rally and 3 cos we couldnt see car or hear alarm if these little t*ats do go on a smashing spree again.......argh...i dont think i am being unreasonable, im so sick of this, i know its a public road, but cant people have a bit of common decency and either park in front of their own house, or even god forbid use their drive(the house full of men could fir two cars on theirs!) and we cant afford to hall wall knocked out and kerb dropped to give us access at moment, plus i dont think theyd take any notice anyway...aaarrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhg

Blimey, I'm not about to have an argument over it, but please, go ahead if you feel the need to vent further!

thers 10 houses where i live, most have drives round the backs, ours doesnt so we have to park round the front (theres only 2 spaces and about 3 cars and a recovery truk!) I always get home first though ha ha! The rest have to block a entrance to a building up and get woken up early to move there cars whilst i'm watching out of the window ha-d-ha!

Mumcentreplus · 01/04/2008 18:15

I can't stand those people who put up cones they piss me off...you don't own the road yanno! really irritating..humph!

NiftyNanny · 01/04/2008 20:10

I'm sorry MotherFunk, but if I saw an ever changing stream of people coming and going with lots of possessions, I would suspect something dodgy.

I live in London and I know there are people from all nationalities living here and sharing flats.

However, to-ing and fro-ing at all hours, random people showing up never to be seen again, families, singles, lots of moving items and so on would really make ME think they are up to no good.

The might just be drug dealers though rather than people traffickers, so who knows? ;-P

HIya, no i dont suspect drugs although i may be wrong..people tend to go in and stay in as opposed to go, buy something then come straight away..also they 'dont seem the type'(famous last words!)

yabu it's a public road. go out and check their tax disc,if it's out of date make a complaint. if it's not they are perfectly entitled to park whwere they want.
oh and is there anything more annoying than people who put traffic cones on a public road to reserve "their spot"?always move them and park in the space as a matter of principle.

Triggles · 02/04/2008 23:10

I'm still pondering the whole idea that while they have a drive, they don't use it possibly due to concern that someone will block them in

Apparently this is my neighbour's problem as well. 2 adults, 4 cars, and they are never parked in their own nice empty drive. And the neighbour across the street that has a trailer and a broken down vehicle in his drive, so they park their 2 cars on the street as well, in the very limited space available.

And yes, I fully understand that it is a public street and they have a right to park there as well. Which is why I never say anything, but it always makes me wonder what's the point of having a drive if you're not going to use it?

And the people that use cones to block off a parking spot are annoying. And since it's not against the law to move those cones, someone always at some point moves them and parks in the spot, and things just degenerate from there.

ROSEgarden · 03/04/2008 11:12

well dp has looked into it and you CAN park over someones drive-legally- (even if theres a droopped kerb!)if there is no car there, but you can not park over the drive if there -is- a car there?!..so you can block owners OUT but just cant block them IN..bloody madness!!!..however, we have a couple of houses with drives on this road and NO ONE EVER parks in front of these drives..which is nice and respectful i think, but you'll always get the one idiot who wont consider anyone else and dump their car there

Threads like this always make me glad I don't drive. It just seems such a strange thing to get hung up about. That's probably only because I've never experienced it, though, I get cross with people who walk slowly (not the elderly/disabled/children etc) which I guess is similarly nonsensical and pointless.

Triggles, why on earth would 2 adults need FOUR cars? Surely they can only use one each at a time, tops?

Triggles · 03/04/2008 21:13

LOL Sally, that was my thought as well. But 4 they have, and there are always at least 2 parked there. Rarely do they use their private drive. Strange.

carrielou2007 · 03/04/2008 21:41

Don't mention dropped kerbs to me!! I park outside my house most days as most of my neighbours try to park putside their own houses and they know I have a baby so often the space outside my house is kindly left to get dd out and all her bits and bobs after work etc...I came out on 1st april to find a fixed penalty notice on it for parking (there is a dropped kerb).

I had honestly never heard of this, know you can't park on a pavement (as lots of my other neighbours do, they have a garage and one parking space so they park the second car on the bit that backs onto the pavement so you have to walk into the road to get past) or would never have parked there. Asked my next door neighbour (copper) and he said he would never give a fixed notice but told me it is actually illegal so I haven't parked there since - needless to say my neighbour over the road has parked there both days.

Most people where I live really are nice, most have a garage and a parking space but have a second car to put somewhere. I am a single mum so just my car and my driveway is around the back of my house behind the garden so bit of a pain to park there so i let next door use it and I park on the road. Not now though...one of my other neighbours likes to park outside a different house (rather than his own) and I see him running over to move his car if someone has parked in 'his' space then moves to get to it.

YABU as like you say, the road is not owned by anyone person just such a shame so many people are so ignorant. Sadly some people just don't give a monkeys or even actually enjoy stirring things up and making things dificult for everyone else.
