Neighbour looking over our fence making our dog bark

Candy155320 · 18/04/2024 16:35

Hi our neighbour for the past week has been looking over our fence into our garden and is constantly making our dog bark and growl every single day even at weekends while we are in our garden. What’s the best way to tell her not to look over in our garden getting our dog to bark and growl - it’s her fence not ours -

OP posts:

'Can I help?'

Job done.

This.

not sure why you’ve not said anything yet, OP! I’d have lost my marbles by now

Train your dogs not to bark if you're out there with them or don't just leave them in the garden. I hate people who just dump their dogs in the garden. Your neighbour is perfectly allowed to be in their garden looking over their fence. If you don't want them to see in yours you need to put something up to block their view.

If someone walk up to our gate or looks over the garden wall I want my dogs to bark. They are trained to not bark if I invite the person to come in.

It is not the dogs fault, or the OP, the neighbour should not peer over the fence, unless she is a little stupid, she should realise her actions are making the dog bark.

K0OLA1D · 18/04/2024 18:08

All this 'train your dog not to bark'... er no?

I want my dog to alert me to anything a bit suspect. Granted that's sometimes a pigeon, but I'd want him to bark if someone was trying to get into my garden.

WhatNoRaisins · 18/04/2024 18:27

She sounds like a very strange person then. I'd want a much higher fence.

@Candy155320

Hi

Just come across as a Geeky 🤓 know it all on seriously incredibly boring mundane subjects and facts

and repeat every time you see them next door neighbours like you have dementia type of a thing..

Have the evangelism attitude of Jeahhova witness church goers,
in regards of taking the opportunities to talk about the same or and all kinds of boring subjects,
every time they show interest in appearing over your garden fence, 😀

Watch how 🤔 how they react,
It be bit entertaining for sure..

OhmygodDont · 18/04/2024 18:48

Is your fence 6ft? Unless she’s a giant or you’ve short fences she must be standing on something to look over.

If it’s short fences get new ones. If she’s clambering tell her to piss off 😂 or rather every time ask her if she requires assistance.. make a point oh hi again Jane do you need something….

Riapia · 18/04/2024 18:56

Tell her that you’re on MN she’ll understand straight away.
She’ll never dare look at your dog again.

Everythinggreen · 18/04/2024 18:56

Why is she doing that? That's bizarre. I'd be tempted to sit under the fence with a scary mask on, laying in wait then jump up and scare her! Bet she wouldn't be so nosy again in a hurry!

@Candy155320 think your neighbour found the thread 😂

Fookintired · 18/04/2024 19:01

This reminds me a bit of the thread where a nosey neighbour kept finding ways to look into the poster's garden. She bought a trampoline from what I can remember of it. Anyhow, back to this thread. Yes OP I'd find that really annoying. We can water pistol dogs and cats, shame we can't do the same with nosey neighbours 😏

ThisIsMyRubbishUsername · 18/04/2024 19:13

My neighbour did this to deliberately antagonise our dog and then reported us to the council. Nothing came of it because it was seen as a dog just being a dog, but be cautious there could be an ulterior motive.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 18/04/2024 19:14

Can you kindly ask her to stop doing that as that is upsetting dog and making it stressed hence the barking. She sounds a bit barking mad herself if she is calling others to look at the dog. If my neighbour was peering over I would ask them to stop doing it. Luckily have a massively high wall so cannot see anyone.

sanogo · 18/04/2024 19:20

Our fence is 6ft 6' and it's bloody brilliant, never have to see anybody

Ethylred · 18/04/2024 19:28

She likes looking at your dog and your dog likes barking at her. What is the problem? It's called a relationship.

3rdtimeinflorida · 18/04/2024 19:32

So glad another poster said “I’m not going to train my dog not to bark in my own garden, I want them to do their job.” Exactly, which is to protect their territory. Every time my neighbour moves her bins(over the fence at the bottom of our garden) my dog barks (she moans). I don’t like the noise her bins make (think she likes to antagonise- long story) but it’s just tough and it’s life.

kittybiscuits · 18/04/2024 19:34

Trellis and fast growing vines

EG94 · 18/04/2024 19:34

bit of an odd neighbour 😂 we just moved in this year. 6fts all bar 3. Neighbour said she’ll pop her head over so the dogs get used to her. I explained it won’t work, they’ll bark at you every time they bark for a few seconds everytime they see me. Neighbour has taken to ignoring them and only peers over to chat. Also told her to feel free to tell them to shut up 😂 she said she don’t mind a dog should bark if someone’s coming near the house.

ask if there’s a reason she’s looking at the dog as it’s clearly upsetting the dog.

my old neighbours used to torment the dogs and in garden by sticking fingers through the fence and I said stop tormenting the dogs they will bite you. (Likely they wouldn’t) small threat never hurts.

Jc2001 · 18/04/2024 19:36

Run a 2 ft trellis along the fence.

AlwaysGinPlease · 18/04/2024 19:37

Hose. Oops, sorry. She'll soon stop.

Maybe the neighbour should hose the dog to stop it barking.

Loveskin2024 · 18/04/2024 19:42

She’s probably sick of your annoying dog barking 😂

Konfetka · 18/04/2024 19:44

murasaki · 18/04/2024 16:49

My neighbour ( an arsehat) told me that he didn't like my cat looking at him from my garden. I'm afraid I laughed.

That made me LOL!

The Dog is barking at the batshit neighbour!

Then maybe she should stop peering in her neighbour's garden & making the dog bark.
