we have complained when they have been drilling into joint wall and demolishing stuff at gone 10pm, but we have very small children and they are really really annoying us. have already complained tonight, but what time do you think is reasonable to ask them to stop?

I'll get back to you in about ten minutes.

avenanap · 01/04/2008 14:08

Have a look at this and I'll have a look to see if I can find what the time limits should be www.defra.gov.uk/environment/noise/suffer/pdf/botheredbynoise06.pdf

avenanap · 01/04/2008 14:13

And there's this: www.environmental-protection.org.uk/noise/neighbourhood-noise/nuisance/

chamaeleon · 01/04/2008 14:33

thanks avena. i dont think it will carry on for too much longer, they are getting the walls plastered now so fingers crossed it wont happen too many more times!

i was looking for that sort of stuff last night but didnt find anything so its much appreciated

It isnt hard to find the rules. 7-11 what ever fools think it is unreasonable past 6pm you are weirdos.
Check some facts before you go spreading the gospel on things.

DropYourSword · 25/07/2016 18:10

Check some facts before you go spreading the gospel on thing

Would that not include commenting on an 8 year old thread! Is kind of hope their project would be completed by now!

Rumpelstiltskin143 · 25/07/2016 18:11

@Britishmade. I'm sure they've sorted it by now seeing that the thread is EIGHT years old!

AmserGwin · 25/07/2016 18:18

ZOMBIE thread!!!!

heron98 · 25/07/2016 18:20

I think anything up until 10pm is reasonable. Most people are still at work at 6pm!

waynebaker1 · 15/11/2017 08:45

so I live in a block of flats can people start work at 5am until 12pm

AnneBiscuit · 15/11/2017 09:11

ZOMBIE THREAD

LegallyBrunet · 15/11/2017 12:12

My tenancy agreement said no noise after 11pm and before 7am. However if they're approachable just explain that you have young children who need to sleep and see if you can come up with an agreed time between yourselves?

QuiQuaiQuod · 15/11/2017 12:41

Look upbuilding works/diy on your council website.

mines 8am-6pm Mon-fri.

11am-3pm saturday.
NONE sundays and bank holidays.

what they are doing is anti social and a noise nusiance and you can repoirt them.

We have recently purchased a house. It's our first house, it’s a very old house and as you would expect there’s a lot of DIY work.
Unfortunately we have a forward neighbour whom introduced himself rather abruptly and from the get go I had an off feeling! He initially asked if we were student’s Hmm Laid the law down about leaving his car outside our house and wasn’t too pleased when we removed an over grown conifer in OUR garden.
So… as we carried out work on our house (which the neighbours new about, as we told them when we moved in) 3 weeks on this neighbour comes out of his house screaming profanity, hurling abuse at my husband and father in law about the noise at 6.40pm. At this point we had actually stopped the work!!
We have made a point of not working past 8pm, any loud noises we do at weekend after 11am and before 6pm.
Please can someone give me advise?

katmarie · 12/03/2018 18:10

@GW1989 My advice would be to start a new thread, rather than posting on one from 2008, you're likely to get more helpful responses that way.

DalekDalekDalek · 12/03/2018 18:16

Why did you just resurrect a zombie thread to ask your own question? 99% of people will read the OP and reply to that rather than your post.

Pixelpuffin · 12/03/2018 20:51

I sympathise with the OP
I've spent virtually the last 18yrs doing DIY, trying to create a nice house for my family. Although I used to be a joiner, I'm not exactly a DIYer.
I'm incredibly conscious of my neighbours and their need for peace and quiet. I try to avoid starting before 10am with anything noisy at the weekends but usually I'm still on the go until sunset or just after.
I'll be honest I'm fed up with it, but tradesmen these days just want to rob you blind and when your backs turned they'll cut every corner possible to make the job easier and more profitable.

I can see this argument from both sides, the neighbours and the DIYers.

GW1989 · 12/03/2018 23:50

Thanks for the reply new to here as I typed in advise for DIY in google. Didn't realise you needed a new thread! Sadly work needs to be carried out.

Gary19 · 30/06/2019 17:49

We had a similar situation and after speaking to them they said the same as you however , having spoken to a solicitor friend of mine we found out this this isn’t true that the 7am start does not apply to diy or building work over 10 days

Whatafackinliberty · 30/06/2019 17:51

Reckon this 11 year old problem might have been solved by now.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 30/06/2019 17:53

Hope they're not still drilling and banging more than a decade later, that's all I can say.
