Nursery destroying coats!

AIBU for thinking DCs' Nursery are being unreasonable by letting my children paint, using paints that stain, while wearing their coats?

I have a whole drawer of stained clothes dedicated as nurserywear that I really don't mind getting destroyed. They're easy to wash and clothes are relatively cheap. It's great that they can get messy at nursery (and I don't have to clean it up, joy!)

But I've now got two COATS to add to this. Mud on a coat is fine. Grass stains, fine. But the paint is really bothering me.

Is it weird that this is happening?

Yes happens here too. I found it irritating but appreciate what else can they do if there's paint outside. I now try and buy a charity shop coat (in a size too big so it lasts) that becomes their nursery coat.

Happens all the time. 3 kids. We never send nice (expensive) clothes in nursery.

I used to manage a nursery and find this unacceptable.

We spent a LOT of time outdoors, however as part of the induction process parents were required to purchase waterproof dungarees and jackets which protected children from mud/paint etc.

It's so frustrating!!! Especially when it seems like they do the messy play, then get them all changed into the spare clothes only to do more messy play!!! We stopped washing the spare clothes just make sure they're dry and put them back in for the spares again another day. We just have one sacrificial coat for nursery.

As others have said I'm happy they do messy play, and no way can you do messy play with 10-20 children and make any attempt at keeping them clean. But why do they have to change them out of clothes that just have a bit of paint on when they're going out for a forest walk in the afternoon!!!!

Why would you send nice coats in? I never got this. Anything can happen, painting can be done outside, coats get picked up by accident and taken home by others. I once had a rain set accidentally left in the bottom of an outside box, eventually found all mouldy, I asked them why they were giving it me, it was destroyed beyond belief and my dd had been wearing other shitty charity shop coats and pants for months.
