Mop help!

Boring post - but advice required 🙏I'm on my third squirty mop (where they have a plastic container thingy at the front). I have laminate floors all throughout the house. For some reason, my squirty mops stop squirting after a while! AIBU to think these should last longer?? The most recent one lasted 1 week and I'm returning it. I can't afford to keep buying a new one at 20 pound a pop every couple of months. What does everybody else do regarding cleaning laminate floors? Are steam mops worth it? Or can anyone recommend a squirty mop that actually works please?

Just buy a normal wipe mop and get some of that squirty Method floor cleaner separately.

Whattobakeiwonder · 16/04/2024 19:52

Are you using bleach? This is corrosive and always breaks squirty bottles.

Does the nozzle need cleaning? Hot water and an old toothbrush might clear it.

Its a week old so hardly used. I use white vinegar and water with a couple of drops of lemon juice. I hate harsh chemicals.

To lazy to lug a mop and bucket up stairs daily I have one of those squirty mops that I use in our ensuite for a quick once over, wouldn't use it for main foot traffic areas though.

Whether wood or tiled I only use one of these 'old fashion type mop heads', I just feel for me they mop better and leave the floors drier.

They wash up well and last a while too.

Oh my God! I thought you had posted a photo of Jimmy Savile. 😳

I'm not sure what the lemon juice is adding, apart from possibly a source of mould - which could clog the nozzle.

If you want to add lemon for fragrant and antibacterial properties, the essential oil would be much better than juice.

Jeez....I can't unsee what you've written.

The everyday job of moping the floors will never be seen as therapeutic again.

We had the same issue & now we've got the floating mop from amazon but you can get it from other places too.

It's really good, works on lvt which is what we've got & you squirt the cleaner into the pads rather than the floor. Definitely recommend.

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 16/04/2024 21:34

I got this and I used it for wooden floors and Lino etc

I've tried all sorts of mops. I don't like steam mops as I don't want unnecessary moisture in the air. Squirty mops leak. I don't like disposable 'mop pads'. Honestly I keep coming back to the old fashioned string mop. I have a few heads and wash them regularly. They're fine on our kitchen tiles and oak flooring - just squeeze most of the water out.

DiscoBeat · 16/04/2024 21:51

NB you don't have to throw them away if they stop spraying! Just use the cleaner separately in a spray bottle.

Arrestedmanevolence · 16/04/2024 21:52

We had one of these but DH kept on laughing about getting his boner out so we (I) had to get rid of it.

Runssometimes · 16/04/2024 21:57

I bought the ecloth mop. Does not squirt and you use just water. I don’t like using bleach. And this can go in the wash. The mop head is super light and easy to use, so have found that I’m washing the floor more frequently as less of a faff. I’ve pretty low standards to be fair.

An alternative might have been to beat him round the head with his own bona 😂😂

It's got so overly complicated! Too many options. I tried the flash wipe mop thing but get through so many of the disposable pads and costs a fortune for large areas. It's a mop-minefield out there!

This is what I've decided to do I think. I'll keep the mop with washable microfiber pads and spray the floor separately. The mop itself is fine it's the spray part that's broken again 😬😬
