How to decide whether to leave your job

I have a well paid job, great flexibility and lovely colleagues, but the company is going through a difficult period and several relatively senior people have left who I used to interact with and it makes me question things. I have also been given a lot more work recently due to a team member being made redundant and it is stressful.

I was contacted by recruiters for a couple of positions and decided to go ahead with an application and am through to final stage with both, had my final interview with one yesterday and I have been offered the job.

I just feel completely sick about having to make a decision. It is a definitely a good opportunity and the people seem nice. I just can't shake this huge anxiety I have about leaving my current position.

I definitely do get over invested and I know that if the boot was on the other foot the company I work for wouldn't have any qualms about getting rid of me, I have seen many redundancies over the last year. I just worry about losing my flexibility, the stress of a new job when I have teens doing GCSEs and A levels next year. Whether it is the right time.

I did in the past take a job which I hated, although it has probably helped me get to where I am today and I worry about making a mistake.

How can I make a decision.

You could make a list of pros and cons. Or flip a coin.

Didn't you ask questions about flexibility during the interview process?
It doesn't sound as though you have much of it in your current job with all the additional responsibilities and it is only likely to get worse given that they are in dire straits. You current job is already stressful, so the new job is unlikely to be more so especially since nobody will be expecting you to perform miracles in the first couple of weeks.
Ultimately, nobody has a crystal ball but your current job doesn't sound like much of a loss and you don't even have the certainty of still being employed in the near future given all the redundancies.

Yes I did ask about flexibility, and they would honour my part time, but with my current job I have a lot of autonomy and can move my days around and kind of do what I want.

I think you need to ask HR or the recruiter about culture and working habits. It would have been better to do it a bit earlier in the process, but there’s no changing the past

When you talk to them about the job offer ask about flexibility - be clear about what you need eg being able to move your working days around. A reasonable employer will be happy to have that discussion with you.

So i have the option to have a "culture" interview where I can meet other members of the team and get a better feel which I definitely need to do. I will go back with a few more questions on flexibility.

My main problem is I hate change, I really struggle with it and that is what is scaring me.

Try to think which would you regret most. I am exactly the same as you and struggle with decisions like this.
