To not share homebuyers report with estate agent

We were buying a house and paid extra for a homebuyers survey as we knew the house needed some renovation. Basically we’ve have to pull out of buying it as there’s just so much wrong with the house. But the estate agent has asked us to send the full homebuyers report over which details all of the problems.
Is this normal to provide this to the agent? The seller has really not looked after this house and I feel like he should pay for his own survey, not get it for free.
Is it cheeky to ask the agent to tell the buyer to send us the cost of the report? Would you send the report over? I don’t want to send it.

It's your report, you paid for it you don't have to share it.

If you were trying to get money off due to the report I could understand it but you own them nothing.

EA always ask this but don't send it. I've sent extracts in the past when it's helped negotiations but as you don't want to negotiate but pull out then there's literally no point.
Just tell the EA if seller wants a copy then he'll have to pay a contribution towards the survey

Anameisaname · 15/04/2024 17:51

To add: no point in asking for full cost. The seller can just commission their own. Ask for a contribution like 50pc. Then you recoup some money and they're more likely to pay it as it's cheaper than getting their own

Just ignore unless they want to pay for it. You've pulled out, you don't need to send them anything.

ivs · 15/04/2024 17:52

they want it, they can pay for it

mitogoshi · 15/04/2024 17:55

No not normal but out of a sense of goodwill I would send a brief summary to the agent with the confirmation of pulling out so someone else doesn't get to the same stage again

Letty186 · 15/04/2024 18:01

They can buy it from you ...

Row23 · 15/04/2024 18:04

Thank you for the replies - we already gave a brief overview of the bigger issues when we confirmed we couldn’t buy it.
Will definitely ask for 50% of the cost before sending it then.

I’d ask for them to pay 50% at least otherwise tell them no.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 15/04/2024 18:07

Tell them to pay for it.

We sold our report to the next buyer when we had to pull out.

Yea this is what I would suggest you both benefit a bit then

When I pulled out of a house sale having already paid for a homebuyers, structural survey and the searches the EA arranged for the next buyer to buy it all off me, the EA liaised with my solicitor to get them all and transfer funds to my account with the solicitor.

In the case of the homeowner - they should pay you, deffo don’t give for free!
