Delivered pillow instead of mattress, rectified but pillow return is ......

I got a pillow delivered instead of a mattress from a well known online mattress company - happy to name but I don't know Mumsnet policy on outing companies. I tried to refuse on delivery as I obviously knew straight away, but driver refused to take it and insisted I take it. Company did then send mattress a week later, I stayed in a second time, whilst I was relieved to get mattress, this time driver never buzzed up and left in my lobby, so I had to move it up floors to my flat myself. This was disappointing.
Company then use a different delivery company to pick up the pillow they now want back. This company in daily Whatsapps is threatening to charge me if I'm not in to sign for pillow. And they only offer a day, rather than a time slot. The mattress company via email confirm that I can leave it outside my front door as I tell them I can't stay in a third time, you only get time on day. Anyhow, the delivery company want a signature so they don't pick up pillow even though I left it outside my door on chosen day.
The mattress company want me to re-book another time slot/day. Telling me I don't have to sign for it. The delivery company offer no space for detail or feedback and are still demanding I stay in to sign. Ie neither company is in communication with each other.
I'm genuinely surprised that the mattress company thinks so little of people's time. I would prefer to walk to post office than face a delivery company threatening me with charges. I don't know my rights. I have no desire to keep this pillow, hence I initially refused to take it but I'm sick of emails and whatsapps over it too. I don't want to ruin my credit rating or be sued/face charges. But neither do I want to give any more of my time waiting in for this @£$*** pillow to be picked up. So, I'm tempted to say - enough - AIBU? And it's got me thinking how we value goods over people's precious time or peace of mind.

For thr initial inconvenience I'm surprised they didn't just tell you to keep it as a gesture of goodwill. Can you phone anyone from the company about it? If you're going round in circles maybe reach out to them on Twitter (X?). I find customer service sadly tends to be better and quicker if on a social media post.

Tell them it is up to them to rectify their mistake and you refuse to be further inconvenienced, having to wait in and sign for a mistaken delivery you tried to refuse in the first place. Tell them this in detail on their facebook page. They need to book a delivery service that doesn't require a signature.

Or just do what most couriers do: stick it on the doorstep, take a photo and send it to them to prove you left it there. What happens next is up to them.

Thanks for replies

@Coasters4Life I'm pretty surprised too! You would think their yearly profits are dependant on this pillow returning. I've looked on twitter/X and they're not active on account, probably because there are negative tweets on them messing up orders and poor customer service. And company is German so it's just email contact

@AmaryllisChorus I'm on verge of saying this

Say it.

Tell the courier company where they can stick it.

They're not going to sue you for a pillow. Keep the communications from the supplier telling you that it's ok to leave outside the door.

If the messages continue, block and inform supplier that you're no longer willing to deal with such an awful company and they need to arrange collection of their pillow for when it's convenient for you.

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 15/04/2024 01:01

Btw what company is it? MN can delete the post if you're not allowed to name and shame (although I don't see why not!)

hateexpensivepillows · 18/04/2024 15:19

@cheeseandketchupsandwich - it's Emma - seriously, avoid at all costs, or order only via someone like John Lewis who can do customer service.
Delivery company is Rhenus, again really challenging to contact
I don't know if Emma are going to affect my credit rating and bill me for this pillow but I definitely think a customer's time needs to be included in any customer legality, the idea that people should spend hours waiting in if a company delivers the wrong product and wants in returned is ridiculous
