To think I can cover all these places in 2 days?

Whitby
Robin Hoods Bay
Scarborough
Filey
Bridlington

If I'm staying at Barmston?

If you think IABU, are there any places you'd cut from the list or recommend I focus on the closest ones (bottom of the list upwards)?

Well, you could certainly drive through them all. What do you actually want to see or do there?

outyoctober · 14/04/2024 20:33

No, not in any real sense. As the pp said, you might get away with driving through them.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 14/04/2024 20:38

I think it depends what you enjoy doing but this is what I would do.

I’d miss out Bridlington (brash) and Filey (not much there).

You won’t needs loads of time in Robin Hood’s Bay but it is pretty and worth a visit.

Whitby and Scarborough are both lovely in their own ways, plenty to do in both.

KenAdams · 14/04/2024 21:17

Not looked into them all properly yet but just cover the main "bits" I suppose. A bit more than driving through them all.

Do you have 2 full days?

Day 1, get up early. Drive along the coast road (A165/A171 to Whitby Park and Ride). Spend time in Whitby. Have a wander around and fish and chips (If you want to dine in at The Magpie, get there before 12 pm, after that be prepared to queue, but you could have fish and chips anywhere, they're all good, but The Magpie just has the best PR.

Go to RHB on the way back. Walk south along the beach as far as Boggle Hole if the tides allow or use the cliff top path. When done, return to Barmston.

Day 2 again get up early and visit Brid, Filey and Scarborough in order depending on what suits your return journey best. You could also visit Flamborough Head, Bempton Cliffs, Danes Dyke or Sewerby.

On the journey home, notice lots of other lovely places and decide you'll be coming back to Yorkshire many times to see more things properly Smile

Yes two full days. That's a great itinerary, thank you!

Scarborough is wonderful ❤️

merryandbrightdelight · 14/04/2024 22:49

There's a shop over the swing bridge on the corner in Whitby that does the most amazing Battenberg fudge!

Sewerby Hall and Gardens and Flamborough Head I agree with too 😊

I've been going to this area for 16 years, you could cover them in 2 hours. I presume you mean is 2 days enough? No it isn't, not if you want to have a good time. Eirher go for longer or just go whitby and scarborough or whitby and york.

AppleCrumbleTea · 14/04/2024 23:21

Just do Whitby and robinhoods bay

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 14/04/2024 23:42

Easily we go to Scarborough/ Robin hoods Bay and Whitby for a day out once a month.
Today we have been to Fraisthorope beach and Bridlington..
Depends how long you want in each place..
Whitby will probably be your longest place to walk around.. so much more to offer..
Scarborough is more arcades/ pubs.
Filey is stunning beach.. small town.. .
Robin hoods Bay very quaint .. quirky shops.. cafes etc.
Bridlington.. very long.. split into two halves.. part run down
.. other half nice beach..
Arcades and shops

My recollection of Scarborough is that the town was run down and depressing so I wouldn’t go. The Coastal Path from Whitby to RHB is lovely and you can take the bus back. You could see most of Whitby in a couple of hours and likewise RHB. We camped at Filey, it was pretty but I would imagine 2hrs there maximum

This was my concern, that I'm trying to pack too much in and I should just leave a couple of places for another time.

We had a holiday in Yorkshire last summer.

Whitby was great and we really enjoyed it. We spent an afternoon there and explored the town and abbey. Could fill a day there easily if stopping for lunch.

Wasn't keen on Scarborough but we spent a couple of hours there. Wouldn't rush back.

Filey is nice. We were based there and hired a beach hut for a week. You can explore the town in no time. We walked out onto Filey Brigg. All doable in a half day but could fill a day if taking your time and maybe walking some of the coastal path too.

Bridlington - we parked and were back in the car after an hour. It wasn't our cup of tea at all. Agressive seagulls is all my DC remember from that visit. Maybe it's better when the sun shines. We went on a cloudy day.

Robin Hoods bay is great. We did a half day and had a picnic on the beach and visited the museum. The walk down and back up is lovely.

Bempton Cliffs (there's an RSPB reserve) is worth visiting, especially in the months when the puffins are there (they do boat trips from Bridlington round to look at the birds but you probably haven't time for that). Flamborough Head is nice - there are 2 lighthouses a few hundred metres apart and the old chalk tower dates from the 17th century. Good cafe (scones the size of bowling balls!) doing a range of meals and snacks, etc with good views over the sea right on the Head, next to the working lighthouses. There are often seals lopping about on the shingle below the working lighthouses.
