I hate it when natural idyllic woodlands and wildlife habits are trashed wrecked like this

Arseholes 💩 doing that...

Needmorelego · 13/04/2024 19:47

@Londonrach1 they must have had planning permission though? I can't imagine a company as massive as Merlin would skip that important detail.
You say locals complained - but did they all actually try to stop the planning permission?
Unfortunately if not enough people did then permission will have been granted.
If you believe that something illegal has been done then as I said upthread - contact your MP.

Cazpar · 13/04/2024 19:50

While I strongly disagree with the destruction of the woodland, incredibly strongly, if they had planning permission (have you checked?) then what exactly do you think can be done?

SparklyTwinkleGlitter · 13/04/2024 19:59

We had the same problem when Bristol airport decided to expand. No-one gave a shit about the badgers or deer that were in the nearby wood. We tried getting various people involved but it proved hopeless. As others have said, it's all about Profit.

YouveGotAFastCar · 13/04/2024 19:59

They do have planning permission.

I’m local too, OP. There’s been a lot of protests by locals, and attempts to stop planning being granted.

I’m far from defeatist but I’m not sure there’s much else that can be done here. As you’ve said; there has been masses of evidence submitted of the “usual” state.

Theres another nearby woodland that’s being shut down for access; too… worrying times.

NetZeroZealot · 13/04/2024 20:12

If they have planning consent there is nothing you can do OP. It's too late to make a difference.

lavagal · 13/04/2024 20:14

Is it a castle OP?

NetZeroZealot · 13/04/2024 20:17

You could check the conditions attached to the planning permission but they will probably be discharging them correctly - it would be very unusual if not.

britnay · 13/04/2024 20:26

Your local police will have a wildlife officer

Londonrach1 · 13/04/2024 20:27

Back. Child I think is asleep...im not good at words... please I have photo evidence and there massive local group trying to fit it. Can I pm someone the photo of what's on the tree on the woods...I don't totally want to reveal where this is

I could cry...we always talked about the badgers and have to be careful around their sets and the bluebells are stunning.....I have a photo of what they put on the tree...

VioletPickles · 13/04/2024 20:33

What did they put on the tree? And why?

bridgetreilly · 13/04/2024 20:47

If it makes anyone feel better, badgers are not cute cartoon animals, but vicious animals who kill for pleasure, not just food. Plus they spread bovine TB and cause many, many more animal deaths as a result. And they are not endangered.

crackofdoom · 13/04/2024 20:50

Bloody hell! 🙄
As I hear it, badgers are vectors of bovine TB, but it's because they're constantly being reinfected by cows. It would make more sense to cull the cows to stop the badgers getting infected. Or, y'know, vaccinate the bloody cows.
As for "vicious", well, that's wild animals for you.

Cazpar · 13/04/2024 21:00

The problem is the more people insist on having more frequent and cheaper holidays, weekends / breaks away to these theme parks, the more these parks and other companies will build, expand, and destroy natural environments.

It's bitterly ironic that some are complaining that their children loved the woods while others are bemoaning that they can't take their children to Merlin attractions because they're too expensive and acting like their children are being deprived.

If we want to help, we need to get used to having much fewer holidays / days at theme parks.

Dibbydoos · 13/04/2024 21:09

YANBU - its a criminal offence, crickey we have so little wildlife in UK bevause we've killed of loads of species.

The regulator is the wildlife police. You contact them on 101 or crimestoppers on 0800 555 11.

I hope Merlin get fined and even better a director is held responsible!

It's disgusting.

VioletCharlotte · 13/04/2024 21:24

OP this is so heartbreaking to read. So much of our wildlife has been destroyed in the name of consumerism. It makes me feel ashamed to be a human being sometimes.

It's so difficult to make a stand against large organisations. Money always takes precedence. I don't know what the answer is 😞

Ratbag7 · 13/04/2024 21:44

Warwick?

Infectiousdisease · 13/04/2024 21:48

It's heartbreaking, I bloody hate humanity sometimes, we care so little for the natural world. Soon there will be nothing but bloody theme parks and oh the irony, they recreate bits of fantasy woodland, enough to make you scream in frustration 😭

Why are you being so cryptic? If there’s a local group why can’t you post a link to the website or FB page?

HoundHound · 13/04/2024 21:54

Your local badger group

RobinBobbin · 13/04/2024 22:00

Contact Brian May (of Queen. the band) - friend to badgers.

Seeline · 13/04/2024 22:03

If they have PP all these issues would have been taken into account.
They would need licences from Natural England to deal with the badgers appropriately.
Biodiversity is a big consideration in determining applications.
If they are meeting all the requirements of the PP there is nothing that you can do.

shoppingshamed · 13/04/2024 22:12

Why are you writing in that strange way, this obviously isn't a secret why dont you provide links so we know what you're talking about

Why would a photo of a tree be so problematic
