To want to be able to find a bin to put my dogs shit in, once i have been responsible enough to pick the stuff up......

clearly im having a frustrating day......

Took my dog out with DD and he did a poo. So picked it up as usual, went to find a bin, where i was expecting one to be, not there, none by the car park where they have the weekly market, none the whole length of the road, not even outside the school

I only wanted a litter bin, wasnt being fussy looking for a dog poo bin.....

Is there any wonder we have a litter problem if the council don't provide adequate bins.

Definately going to complain.

post it to them with a note "sorry couldnt find a bin", lol. theres always plenty of bins in parks etc but down streets i can never find ANY bins!! no wonder theres so much little / dog poop about, i'd def complain if i were you x

pinkyp · 30/03/2008 18:45

litter i mean not little oops!

hercules1 · 30/03/2008 18:47

I agree it's a pain but sometimes you just have to carry the stuff and I speak as someone with 3 dogs - 2 giant ones so that's a lot of poo.

emj23 · 30/03/2008 18:48

Not at all unreasonable, and well done for being one of the people who do bother to pick it up. On the way to DS's school we have to look down at the pavement the whole way in case we tread in anything, and it drives me mad.

hercules1 · 30/03/2008 18:49

I disagree about people being commended for picking up dog poo. It's a given that it should be done.

madje2 · 30/03/2008 18:55

It's a given that it should be but there are still a huge number of people that don't. My friend carries bags with her and makes a point of giving them to people she sees who don't pick poo up with a comment such as "oh have you forgotten a bag here have one of mine"!!!!!

pinkyp · 30/03/2008 18:59

lol madje, thats a good idea!

purpleduck · 30/03/2008 19:06

Yeah, I hate having to lug those bags around too.

I just try and think of it as this season's stylish accessory

lucyellensmum · 30/03/2008 19:08

i dont mind carrying it around so much, but its the case that there were NO bins, and no bins outside then market venue - i guess they want to keep the street cleaners busy. So not just a poo issue.

I used to not let my other dog off the lead on the beach until we were close to the dog poo bin (im THAT lazy) as he wouldnt go on the lead.

but purple, i find the way they dangle so disturbing, its almost impossible not to mince along without it swinging along beside you, like you said, a fashionable bag

Just trying doing it with 3 very large bags of deposits!

You can buy designer poo bags you know. Not that I'm guilty of buying them but what a fashion statement.

nametaken · 30/03/2008 20:25

YANBU - dog poo bins MUST be provided if the poo is to be contained.

With regard to the shortage of litter bins, it's probably a cost cutting exercise by councils - the less bins to empty, the fewer people to employ. That way they can use any money saved to put towards protecting the 2/3s of a salary final pension they get [wink}

idlingabout · 31/03/2008 19:58

Lucyellensmum - I just read your other thread about that horrible woman at the council. Didn't have any advice (only sympathy) but perhaps as the most recent representative of the council with whom you have had contact it would be appropriate to send her an example of the problem caused by lack of bins iyswim

Saveme · 31/03/2008 20:09

Take it home. Your dog, your problem.

lucyellensmum · 31/03/2008 20:24

my point being save me, that as a responsible dog owner i of course did take the shit home. My complaint was the lack of bins full stop, in places where they are clearly needed. So it doesnt take much working out that many people, rather than carry home thier dog shit/drinks cans/chip wrappers etc, will just dump it in the street rather than carry it home. So yes, my dog, my problem, i agree - but their lack of bins could also be my problem too, if my DD walks in shit that someone else has left due to lack of bins.

Why don't you write a looooong letter to the Council about your numerous grievances with them?

CountessDracula · 31/03/2008 20:35

I agree poo bins should be provided in regular dog walking haunts

I used to drive home with bags of shit dangling from my wing mirrors

lucyellensmum · 31/03/2008 20:58

because i don't have enough paper of course!! Of course it is probably petty of me to expect them to provide adequate waste facilities, as i have repeatedly said, its not just dog poo bins.

Then of course there is the fact that they only come for the bins every fortnight and on bin day i have to walk past festering, stinking, over full bins. The pavements are a mess, uneven and dangerous. Parking in our town is non existent. They feel the urge to chop the branches off the trees outside my house so they look like ridiculous lollipops. They dont maintain the cemetries, There are limited facilities for families with young children. They ignore complaints about care homes who are blatantly neglecting their residents, and on and on and on goes the list, actually the more i think about it, i don't think i'll bother paying my council tax at all - that'l make the silly bitch wish she had physically come around to my house and dragged the money from my hands.....

Lucyellensmum - I hope you don't think I was being unduly flippant with my post. I totally agree with the issues you raise in your last post - most councils are very neglectful and what you get for your council taxis an absolute disgrace.

TheFallenMadonna · 31/03/2008 21:12

Speaking with my ex-parish councillor hat on...

It's really difficult to site poo bins. No-one wants them outside their house, and they complain hugely vigorously.

And you wouldn't believe the rate at which they are vandalised. Why?

We spent huge amounts on litter and poo bins, mostly on replacing ones which had been ripped off and set alight.

Now, if none have ever been sited, then that is pretty bad.

lucyellensmum · 31/03/2008 21:18

THUD - i agree that dog poo bins outside houses is just horrible. But i am saying i couldnt find ANY bins, no LITTER BINS at all!! Probably just should have started a thread saying how i couldnt dispose of my rubbish instead.

Idle, i wasn't directing my comment at you at all, sorry if it seemed that way. I definately didnt think you were being flippant at all - thank you for the sympathy vote
