Blood oxygen levels of 90 - is the NHS being crap here?

I just spent 7 hours in A&E. I can't get a GP appointment which is the only reason I went to the hospital. I'm sleeping pretty much all day every day, feel really unwell and have been admitted previously due to dangerously low blood oxygen levels.

This time I tested at 90. According to the NHS site that means I need to call 999. Yet I was discharged. What do I do from here?? I can't work at the moment as I'm sleeping practically all day and night. I want to get better but how do I do that? The last time they took me in they gave me an oxygen mask and a drip which really helped.

I'm missing my sister's hen do at the weekend because of this. I'm just so frustrated.

What underlying condition do you have that causes this?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 12/04/2024 16:18

And what did they say when they discharged you?

Livinghappy · 12/04/2024 16:19

What tests did you have in A&E? Any other symptoms, such as high temperature, or underlying health issues?

It could be a viral infection hence the non treatment and you need to rest to recover.

Orangesandlemons77 · 12/04/2024 16:19

I would do an urgent Econsult or call to the GPs and tell them tomorrow

BobbyBiscuits · 12/04/2024 16:20

Early 90s is not dangerous usually, when it gets to 80s it's worse, I think life threatening is 70s.
What did they diagnose you with? Is it a case of going back for outpatients or community care? My friend has lung issues and goes to a lung physio thing three times a week as an outpatient.
Do you feel worse now than when you are discharged? Ie breathing more laboured?

NoblyBobly · 12/04/2024 16:20

Did they give you any advice and tell you to follow up with your GP?

Do you have any diagnosed conditions?

Hairyfairy01 · 12/04/2024 16:22

Are you the lady who posted recently who had sleep apnoea and difficulty waking?

Predictablenamechange1 · 12/04/2024 16:22

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 12/04/2024 16:18

And what did they say when they discharged you?

That I 'appeared well so there was no reason to keep me in'

I'm not well at all. Maybe I should stop masking.

Do you have sleep apnea?

Jenpeg · 12/04/2024 16:24

How is your iron?

LIZS · 12/04/2024 16:25

I have asthma and rarely score over 95 on either fitbit or spo2 monitor. Not sure how accurate they really are though. Were you checked on calibrated equipment?

LIZS · 12/04/2024 16:25

Why are you masking?

TheShellBeach · 12/04/2024 16:26

Why were you told to mask?

IncognitoMam · 12/04/2024 16:27

I hope it is a virus and you feel better soon.
How long has this been going on?

TheShellBeach · 12/04/2024 16:27

And what is your underlying health condition?

Predictablenamechange1 · 12/04/2024 16:27

NoblyBobly · 12/04/2024 16:20

Yes I do. I'm not sure why that should affect the medical treatment I need for this though... it's not connected.

They told me to follow up with my GP but it's nigh on impossible to get an appointment now. No walk ins, can only call in a one hour window and then you're on hold for the full hour and your call is cancelled.

Sarcoidosis? Lung scarring from covid?

Predictablenamechange1 · 12/04/2024 16:30

TheShellBeach · 12/04/2024 16:26

Why were you told to mask?

I wasn't told to mask!

It's autism. Pretty normal for autistic women and girls to pretend to be fine when they're not.

I just need to try and stop faking being OK if I want treatment I suppose.

I think they thought you meant wearing a mask

NoblyBobly · 12/04/2024 16:33

What tests did they do at the hospital?

Livinghappy · 12/04/2024 16:33

That I 'appeared well so there was no reason to keep me in'

What tests did they do? Whilst people might wait for A&E care I think they teat people who need emergency care. If you are deemed well but tired then it could be underlying conditions or viral.

If you consult an E consult, might just reassure you and you could discuss other medicine conditions and medications you are taking.

Timing isn't great for the weekend but perhaps you just need to rest.

Predictablenamechange1 · 12/04/2024 16:35

NoblyBobly · 12/04/2024 16:33

What tests did they do at the hospital?

The usual, blood pressure, bloods, listening to my breathing, heart, lungs etc.

I don't know how exactly they reached the conclusion that it was 90 as I'm not a doctor. I just know what I was told.

90 isn’t life threatening so it was neither an accident or emergency which is presumably why they sent you away. You admit yourself you only went there because you couldn’t get a GP appointment.
Do an econsult or phone the GP Monday.
